It was a little icy still, but a beautiful hike!

Lots of switchbacks, not lots of sun exposure so it’s chilly this time of year. Other hikers, mountain bikers, dogs. There are shorter trails in here you can take. About hour to go 3.4 miles

Beautiful easy to moderate hike. Went in mid October. Peaceful and quiet hike through gorgeous canyon walls. Enjoyed the fall colors.

Beautiful views in this scenic canyon. Novice hikers and little ones can do the first part.

A little bit of a drive to get to the trailhead but the canyon views along the creek were spectacular. In and out of the trees, not much of an elevation, and nothing but peace and quiet out there! I will definitely be back if I get the chance.

Great hike on a beautiful spring day. I would advise people to clean up after their dogs on the trail. It was quite busy on Saturday. I ran into a group pushing a person in a wheelchair and it made me happy they were able to get out together and enjoy Montana's beauty.

Very pretty walk through steep sided rock walls. In and out of trees and across rocky areas. We turned around at an opened overhead wooden gate (I think where FS road 138 took off. +/- 3mi. )
Note: When we were here (9/10) there is only water for the first qtr mile and no water for dogs again until a spring at the OH gate.

beautiful area and the cliffs hanging on either side of the canyon are spectacular. I would definitely rate this hike as easy since it was generally flat the whole way with some small ups and downs. It would be more interesting to bike, ride horses through, or do as a moderate trail run.

Easy to moderate trail depending on how far you go. Towards the end it gets a little more difficult in some places but well worth going all the way.

Great hike for introducing out of town family and friends to the beauty that is Helena! And as an intro to the beast that is altitude (in comparison to Cincinnati)

Easy-moderate hike depending on the route. Nice view on top (especially in the morning).

nice trail. beautiful area

I'm going to hit this trail again, the day I did it, there was so much deadfall it was a challenge. That's just an observation. Trees fall. It's all good. And it's close enough to Helena to be a good day-hike that doesn't necessarily consume the whole day.

Went early winter, beautiful area, cooler because of the shade and valley you are walking in. Didn't see any wildlife, and it was a simple walk/stroll along a no elevation path that's well kept up. Only very cool thing was the lack of noise... not even a ruffle of a bush or anything, just simple silence.

Probably the most scenic hike within 50 miles of Helena 6 miles round-trip and not much elevation gain

Beautiful scenery for an otherwise bland track. The first mile or so is crushed gravel before you get into the dirt. On the uphill it's never really consistent enough to get into a flow. The 3 mile downhill is a lot of fun especially if you dip through the creek on your way out.

Rodney Ridge trail is one that can be done in a variety of lengths and as an edge-of-town hike is very easy to get to. (Except in winter, the road to the trailhead is very steep, and the parking area is equally steep. Ice on both of these means you should park your vehicle at the bottom of Rodney Street and walk up with traction devices on your boots.)

Trout Creek is really only active in the spring and early summer. Nevertheless, this hike up a canyon is really beautiful. Sunlight only hits the bottom of the canyon in the first mile or so which explains the dense mossy and earthy smell of the latter part of the canyon. I've done this hike in winter and fall. But I do avoid the dirt road in spring when it turns to MUD.

Whoever said they did this hike as a 7-miler in 2-hours did NOT do it in knee deep snow like I did in October of 2013. Actual distance is 8+ and took nearly 8-hours to reach the peak and return to our starting point of Moose Creek Cabin. I cannot testify to the trail really because of the deep snow. Navigation was strictly by GPS with the trail laid out. Not sure I will ever want to repeat this despite the spectacular view from the top where a lookout used to stand.

I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful, easy to moderate hike. Saw other hikers, bikers and horseback riders in addition to the treasures that the canyon holds. Pretty easy for the most part. A couple of areas near the end were more moderate.

Easy day hike within Helena. Took the 1906 trail to the top, where there is a rocky outcropping that affords a nice view of Helena and surrounding valley. Hike was easy and incline was gradual, so you never really felt like you were going steeply uphill. Glad I did it, but would probably not go back. I prefer solitude when hiking and the trail was very crowded, with us running into atleast 20 other hikers going up or down, and that was on a chilly September day.

Took 1906 up to summit then Hogstail and Prospectors Trail down. Nice 4.7 mile hike with 1100 elevation gain.
