Did the Refrigerator Canyon trail to the wilderness boundary. The actual canyon is short, but marvelous, culminating I’m about a 60 foot slot canyon about 10 feet wide and a few hundred tall. After the canyon it turns into a pleasant creek side walk, eventually switchbacking out of the creek bottom and long the hillside to the wilderness boundary

Nice little hike. Good for the dog off the leash after you get on the trail on the other side of the dam.

Hiked the loop which is about 15 miles... good maintained trail with beautiful views. There is a couple Creek crossing the first couple miles but the water is shallow and there is lots of spots to cross without getting wet. It's very moderate climbing and the trail is wide almost the entire way.

well marked with beautiful aspen groves spread out along the trail.. very easy hiking with minimal elevation gain.. really awesome views with a sweet picnic spot when you reach the river bottom.. (turnaround spot)

I hiked this with a friend on April 25, 2020, starting at a little after 11:00 am with temperatures in the high 50s. The trail is very level throughout with only a few uphills and downhills. The first mile is a wide trail perfect for kids. The next few miles get a little trickier with about a dozen water crossings, many of which would have been easier just walking through because the footing to get over them without getting wet was pretty sketchy. About 2.5 miles in there was snow and ice and some rocks falling not too far off, so we turned around before the very end. All in all a beautiful hike with plenty of views of canyon walls and blue sky. (I found a tick on my head afterward, so as always this time of year be sure to check yourself carefully.)

Walked this last weekend. Mostly dry beautiful walk. This isn’t much of a hike as it is mostly flat. Overall a gorgeous place to spend your day.

Very easy hike with a wide trail pretty much throughout the trail! It is defiantly accessible for all ages

Occasionally a busy trail, but often solitude and incredible sights of cliff, creek, and critters.

one of my favorite hikes in the Helena area. the boulders are slick in the snow, but otherwise it is fantastic!

I only did a small portion, as the snow/slush got too deep and I only had micro spikes on. Did this on the odd 60 degree day the first of February. It was so beautiful with a nice breeze and blue sky.

Absolutely fantastic. There are some steep climbs at the start, but after that its a moderate and incredibly beautiful hike. We did it as a 3 day, 2 night, backpacking trip with a swing up to the top of Mount Edith, which gave us ample time to enjoy the lakes and the views. Cannot recommend this enough.

This is a hiking/biking loop trail which starts off on beartrap trail up a very steep incline for the first 4 miles. There were multiple switchbacks in which biking is mostly off the saddle (walking uphill) unless in superb shape with very low gears. After meeting the country road, the ride is all downhill and wonderful fun with amazing views. The final trout creek leg is a wonderful narrow canyon with cliffs and spires and a narrow slot with many fun up/down portions to the trail. The route shown here starts at Vigilante campground but there’s a trailhead down the road with parking. This would be a wonderful day hike, bring plenty of water, especially for the hike up.

This was a beautiful trail through the mountains east of Clancy. We encountered one other hiker on the trail, so the sense of isolation was excellent! Near the end of the hike, we came across a small herd of cattle, grazing by the picnic tables. They weren’t the most friendly cows I’ve encountered, so we were forced to turn back after some of them became irritated.

trail is hardpacked and well maintained. moderate climb with a few steep spots. lake is full of good sized westslope cutthroat

Great trail! There are some steep and rocky areas, but if you have a good confident horse you should have no issues. Everything was well marked, lots of water and beautiful views.

Scenery was great. Unfortunately the creek was completely dry after about 3/4 of a mile. We had to turn around after about 2 miles because it was too hot for the dog without water to cool off in.

Cute little stream... Hike is through an area that is getting thinned out so there are hundreds of burn pulled stacked everywhere. Lots of grass across the trail towards the end which got itchy on our legs.

Beautiful trail that hugs the Missouri, making for a great early outing. As others have mentioned, the rocky areas become quite hot during the afternoon. I didn’t see any notable wildlife but keep an eye out for snakes near the rocks and river’s edge.

Big ol gopher snake found right on the trail, other than that very mellow and beautiful hike!

Good workout. About a 4 hour trek with kids, dogs and stops from the campsite. There is some arduous uphill not for the faint of heart. It would be nice to see this place earlier in the season with that mountain runoff as a lot of the creek bed was dried up when we hiked back. Really cool rock formations on both sides of the trail. Wear water proof hikers where there are creek crossings, your feet will get wet.

absolutely beautiful trail! I did this with my younger kids ages 6 and 9 and my mother age 58 and it was perfect. Beautiful view, variety of trail conditions such as walking on huge flat rock to dirt trails. One of my new favorite trails... just be ready to walk across alot of rock and have to watch where you are stepping. Also nice entry ways down to river about a mile down trail with good fishing:)

There is parking at the end of the dead end road down by the dam. there are lots of signs and a closed gate at the dam but you just need to open and walk through the gate. Lucky for me some others came along and showed me or I would have gone home disappointed! This was a nice hike, I only went one mile out and back. At one mile there's a nice spot where you can get down to the water and rest if you wish. Storm clouds started rolling in so we're headed back. There was a small spot where the trail is very narrow, almost washed out for a couple yards, one misstep and I was afraid I was going all the way down. I was ok on the way back, probably because I'd successfully traversed it once! Walking across those big flat boulders was the best! So much fun! The scenery is beautiful, bring a camera.
