We made it about a mile up carrying a baby, with no issues. Plenty of shade at 4 pm. Trail was in good shape, with just a couple rocky/gravelly spots. Really enjoyed the hike and wish we had time to go further. Didn’t see anyone else.

Everyone loved this hike. Short but wild with canyon and creek views. we hiked early September so missed the wildflowers but the spent flowers make me think it would be beautiful. We jumped 2 mountain goats about 15 yards from us on the trail. The goats ran down the rocky side through the Creek and up the other side and watched us. 2.5 miles in you hit the Creek. We turned around there but there are trails that continue on if you want a longer hike. We hiked the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and did not see a single other hiker. Hike is more moderate too easy with a steady climb and shale and rock sections.

I would recommend this trail. It is a fairly easy trail to hike. It has beautiful mountain view’s with high spirals towering over you as you walk through the trail.

Aside from the washout mentioned, trail was in good shape. Do not forget your bear spray! Or your binoculars!

washed out

Trail was washed out last night. There are two difficult gullies at 0.5 miles, trail over scree was washed out at 0.9 miles. My 88 year old father-in-law was able to navigate the gullies, with help, but the washed out scree was too much. The Campfire Lodge restaurant across the road from the trailhead serves an excellent breakfast. :-)

Great views very early on the trail and good shade. The youngest who walked was 6 and was fine with the elevation and shale. Likely this trail is a little trickier when there is still snow on the ground. In July it was pretty family friendly.

Incredible views of the roaring creek but trail was more moderate-difficult vs easy. Take your time navigating the scree on the rocky passes or you risk a dangerous fall. Hiking poles recommended, and I wouldn’t take young kids on this trail.

VERY well marked trail. Beautiful scenery with a lot of elk. The only steep part is at the very end to get back up to the parking area, about 50 meters worth. Highly recommended!

Great trail with very pretty views. It was more challenging than I expected with a narrow path and significant snow and water on the path in late May.

Beautiful terrain but it's a steady climb with lots of shale/rock. I wouldn't take a dog unless it has boots or you keep the hike short.

This hike takes you around the cabin creek river where you can view huge mountain rocks, wild flower fields and natural forests. The hike itself is not very strenuous, but there are parts of the path that are pretty narrow.

great trail. went early May and it was beautiful, creek is really full and fun to look at. about 2-3 miles in it became impassable due to snow pack though. if you go early I the season like me landslides and trees won't have been cleared yet so it's a little more dangerous than it would be otherwise. But very very beautiful and easy hiking.

fishing

Fishing in Mid-May was good. Using a spin rod and lures was effective. Use silver spoon lures or silver color Rapalas. I was only getting action from Rainbows, but they were all 20+ inches. I recommend using a boat to get into the deeper areas of the lake. If you are coming from out of town, the Marina on the lake will rent steel framed boats with small prop engines for about $30 for 4 hours.
