Easy and fun hike. Great for families and kids. I hiked it in January with snow boots. The waterfall is beautiful half frozen.

This was one of my favorite hikes before the fire. It was lush with meadows and mountains with a lot of cover and not to steep for older kids (except at the end near the falls), but after the fire, it is much more exposed. Still a beautiful hike but I would do it in the spring, fall or an overcast day and probably without the younger kids.

Love this trail; we walk in multiple times a week and even with the ice/snow currently on it, it’s still very doable!

Icy in spots, but beautiful scenery along the way. People need to pick up after their dogs!
A nice hike.

Very beautiful trail. A little difficult only because of the ice. Additional trails that go lower near the waterfall and above as well.

A little Ice. We did it with just hiking shoes. Gorgeous trail!

It is eight miles! Not 7.5 lol. It was just absolutely breathe taking. We went in October so we didn't have as many access to the lake as we wanted.

Beautiful area, we went to the area to summit Crazy Peak and camp near the lake!

Burnt out forest trail with no shade until close to Passage Falls. The wind whistles over the pass and its distant sound is a bit otherworldly, was neat! My 7 year old son was able to hike this with me and tolerated it well, with just one rest on the way in for nourishment and to cool down (August 2016). Only one spot on the descent to the falls where I was concerned about my son being able to navigate the path, but he was fine with a hand to keep him balanced. The waterfall at the end was really very nice, a good day hike. Suggest taking a small picnic to pack in and out. There were quite a few people trekking in on this particular Friday. Maybe try midweek and early morning to maximize your experience.

I took the trail to the waterfall in February on a beautiful sunny day. The trail was easy and about 0.8 miles winding through the woods and alongside the river to Ousel Falls. Well worth it.

Always a fun hike, no matter the time of year. Family favorite!

Beautiful in the winter time. The gate will be closed at the first parking lot past the dam when you make the left turn up for palisades. So it adds about an extra mile each way to the hike. Worth it.

Gorgeous short hike. Snow up to my knees but still doable. ✌

Love it! So beautiful!!

We hiked just the first bit of this trail on Sept 16, 2017 primarily to see the waterfalls. The last 2 miles of road to the campground were very rough. The weather changed from sun to cold wind and light rain and back to sun in just a couple of hours, but we enjoyed the short hike and the waterfall is pretty and easy to access. There is a lot of rocky area around to get different views of the falls. Although it looked like great bear habitat, we did not see any animals except a few intrepid chipmunks. The views of the Crazies from the canyon road and all the way to the campground were spectacular, especially with the frosting of snow.

Super easy trail. We went after our first snowfall of the year just yesterday & it was so peaceful and quiet. Went early to avoid traffic. on our way down at noon we passed a lot of people.

This is a beautiful Hike. We went there near the end of August, and there were only a few muddy spots on the trail. We concentrated on the first 4 waterfalls on the trail, so we didn't make it all the way up to the lake. Next time we will likely skip the falls and head to the lake.

If you're pressed for time, I'd recommend skipping Silken Skein Falls. It is very pretty but it's smaller and it takes a bit to get there. Spend time at Champagne Falls. You can leave the trail and walk up the creek, and spend time at the base of the falls.

Note that the last ~1/2 mile of the trail going back is not the same as the one going in. We had passed the loop to Grotto Falls and started realizing the landmarks were different. But it gets you back to the parking lot just the same.

The waterfall is pretty but the hike to get there seemed a little more difficult than necessary, and kind of set up as a tourist attraction. However, it's a great spot to picnic and listen to the peaceful running water as you walk along the creek.
