Nice wooded trail up to the lake which makes it a good hike on a cool day. There are several nice camp spots near the water.

Great hike up to the lake, lots of rocks to navigate. There is an unmarked trail around the lake. Forgot to record going back down.

This is such a beautiful lake and hike around it. If you read previous reviews they all comment on the road, and they are pretty true! You will travel for about 9 miles to get to the lake, and the road is rough. We parked about a mile and a half before the lake, even though we have a 4 wheel truck, the road was pretty bad , so we hiked the rest of the way. The lake was just pristine and great fishing. On a side note, someone mentioned parking at the bridge, there are 4 bridges, so if you want to park, wait until you get to the 4th bridge. It's still going to be at least a 2mile hike.

Quick hike through the trees to a beautiful lake full of grayling. Makes for a great afternoon but it is about an hour drive from Hamilton.

This is a beautiful hike. You can drive to the lake, but park at the bridge if you are in a low clearance vehicle and walk the road to the lake. In mid-July, there were so many wildflowers blooming, the water was crystal clear, and there were a few patches of snow still on the trail. It was just spectacular. Trails continue on beyond the lake, you can hike forever.

Very remote trail and the road to it is rough. Although 4x4 is not necessary it’s very helpful. Definitely a car with good clearance needed. Trail is steep and through beautiful forest. Well, marked. We did carry bear spray because there were signs of bear (scat). The first lake was amazing and the fishing was terrific. Highly recommend but go with others.

A great overnight trip with our kids. A few down trees over the trail, but nothing too serious. Snow was gone with the exception of a few shady spots. Packed out some trash and was saddened by the abuse of live trees.

There are still quite a few snow patches to walk over on many of the switch backs. If you hike up to Storm Lake Pass you will encounter a large one near the pass. There were several long patches of snow covering the trail to hike to Goat Flats that blocked the trail.

Snow in some areas. A beautiful hike to a beautiful lake. The grayling were biting. We were there Friday June 14 and 15. To the group of the a$$holes were left all of their trash in the fire pit. Me and my boys packed it out for you.

Download this trail before heading up since there is no cell service (I use AT&T). The drive up to the trail is a little rough, so I would recommend using a 4x4 or AWD car. The actual trail is around the lake. The views are amazing and worth the trouble of getting up.

This is just a road up to storm lake. The real hike begins once you hike around the lake.... But for sake of review, I wouldn’t bother hiking this unless your car can’t make it on the terrible last mile of the road. You definitely need AWD, if you have great clearance (Subaru Outback and above) or a Jeep/truck. And it will be slow going....it’s a single lane dirt road with boulders and holes all over. The Nissan Rogue we drove couldn’t make it, so we hiked the last mile to storm lake, then the 8 mile round-trip up to Goat Flats. Now the hike from the lake? Honestly one of my favorites I’ve ever done. GORGEOUS mountain and lake views, lots of wildlife, and leading to a high mountain meadow. Worth the hike up to the lake and beyond. Meets up with the CDT so you can hike forever if you’d want to. Storm lake itself is pristine, clear, and full of fish. Areas to camp all around. Would be great for kayaking or canoeing. Very cold even in July, but refreshing to swim in after hiking above the lake.

Great hike overall and a beautiful view from the top of rainbow pass. The approach to Johnson lake has burned so there won't be much shade up to that point but it's pretty flat. After that it's a pretty long uphill slog to the top of rainbow pass and then a short drop to the lake.

Hiked up to Storm Lake pass... awesome hike and beautiful view! Middle of October and about 6 inches of heavy snow on the trail.

Overall amazing hike! We took our dog up with us, plenty of water access on the way for him. We hiked up Saturday (9/1) and came back down Sunday (9/2). Overall well maintained trail that is pretty lightly trafficked and not terribly steep. TONS of wildlife visited our camp overnight, make sure to tie up food for sure. Lots of fish jumping in the lake, we caught some nice trout. The trailhead is easy to get to, you are on a dirt road for awhile but it is in pretty good shape.

the trail is great and especially the Lake ans the campspots Theresa BUT be aware that first the Rock creek Lake and everything around ist private property... so toll get to the trail you have to Cross private property and second the Road to the trail ist Hardcore... our suv almost did not make ist... better have a 4wd or Something more for driving over Rocks...

Great hike with my eight year old to a beautiful lake. Downfall to this hike is that you can drive to the lake.

Great trail. Easy hike. Caught a grayling!

Wonderful hike with a gorgeous lake at the end. Beautiful place for relaxing and taking a swim

It's a fairly dense walk in on a rocky trail. but once you get to the top it opens up to a beautiful lake! Easy hike in and out, even my 9 yo had no problems. Tons of fish up there too!

Sun Jul 01 2018

The road is quite rough. 4wd isn't a necessity, but something with ground clearance is. The trail is very fun. The lakes are beautiful.

June 10th 2018. You will not make it to the trail head without a 4x4 truck or Jeep. Stock 93 GMC 1500 did fine. Maybe an Outback would do it but you will be scraping on large rocks. The trailhead has no signs or markings but it's easy to find. The first half of the trail is wet but clear. there is a swampy area you have to walk around but the trail is easy enough to pick up again. The 2nd half of the trail was dry and rocky. a few small downed trees, but not bad for such a remote trail. The climb wasn't too bad. It's high elevation (7600ft) so I don't recommend going in early June like me unless the forecast is clear. Rain was forecasted but we woke up to 3" of snow. Beautiful lake, at least 2 big sites with fire rings. I recommend it if your car can make it!

This road is NOT something you should take a car down. The rugs are very deep and snow still on parts of the road. Only saw atv’s trying the road. I had to turn around unfortunately
