We hiked the 1000 Steps and Blue trail on a warm, sunny Feb day after a deep cold spell. Loved the varied terrain, well marked once you're on the trail. Recommend they mark trailhead with signage not just little colored squared...we stumbled around a bit trying to find Rockwood Trail and by the time we finished 1000 Steps didn't have time for the 6 miler. Had to opt for Blue Trail instead. Next time though!

Good challenging trail. It’s muddy and a little slippery because of the snow melting

Fun, quickly rewarding hike on our drive through the area. Watch for ice on the steps. Be sure to also check out the petroglyph site off the road when you’re in the park.

Not sure why but my Fitbit measured closer to 10 miles rather than the 6.8 stated. Quite a workout, one of my favs

I took my three sons on this trail. It had been raining the night before and everything was still wet. The steps are very slick when they are wet. I was so happy when we got to the bottom of the hill. The Vibram soles on my shoes did not give me much traction and my sons slipped several times on the rocks. I do not recommend this trail after or during a rain.

Hiked this trail yesterday (11/24) after we had quite a bit of rain and it wasn’t too muddy! The trail head was pretty confusing, and I completely lost the trail at one point as well, but all it all I did really like this trail! Loved all of the moss especially!

I have done this trial 3 times. Twice I went up the 1000 steps and once down. Going up is steep but reasonable. Going down is trickier for footing. The overlooks.are very nice. Combined with the other trails It is about a 2 hour trek. The last time I did the trail it was -2 degrees outside when we started. When finished it was 27 degrees. Also there is an area of native Americans carving along the trail. Add 30 minutes to check them out.

This trail was beautiful and well worth it but I would not rank it an easy trail. This is at least a moderate, the hill about 1/2 mile in is killer.
The views at he top though are just simply amazing.
About 1/3 of the trail is remote and peaceful but the other 2/3 follows along side roads, the pool area, and some other pavilion stops.
There are some pretty rugged declines as well, make sure you have good hiking shoes with traction.

Beautiful hike with various terrain changes. We went 11/3, early AM, after rain, many new leaves on paths, if it weren’t for trekking poles would have fallen four times. No ticks, skeeters, spider webs, nice. Trail head (TH) marking, signage poor. We took off from area 1/2 mile off TH. We finally found the TH, which we thought was end of trail but it wasn’t; very confusing! We were temporarily bewildered (lost) and walked 3/4 mile on road to get back to car. Blazing’s are confusing, and not very generous.

Lots of cool views and just enough hills to get a nice little work out in. Took us a little over three hours. Not a heavily trafficked trail which is cool but there was an insane amount of spider webs across the trail which got really annoying after about a mile of running into them. Overall I’d say it was a good hike.

Good mix of open and wooded. Several nice views. I hiked 2 days after heavy rains and there were tons of beautiful fungi. I saw a few lizards and walking sticks. Otherwise, animal life was minimal. Lots of good rocks for collecting.

Beautiful! Steep to start. Worth the climb

I absolutely loved this trail! We just hiked the full trail over the weekend and I'm glad we went when we did. The spring wildflowers were in full bloom all along the path. Although my favorite part was at the bottom of the 1000 Steps junction where all the violets and bluebells covered the ground. This is one I will definitely hike again.

I took my dog hiking on a Tuesday here and didn't see another person on the trail the entire 6.4 miles we were out. It's very peaceful (aside from a small section near the roads) and there is a nice mix between wooded and open areas. There are also a couple spots that offer nice views. I finished the 6.4 miles in 3.5 hours and I'm a bit out of shape so I'm confident anyone can complete this hike. There are some rocky areas but they weren't that bad. This park is very well kept and has clean facilities. The office staff were all very friendly as well.

Wonderful trail run! Awesome change of scenery throughout. Highly recommended

Great trail run!

My Fitbit scored this as 113 flights of stairs, and it does not score descents. Awesome workout.

Wouldn't consider the trail to be rated as difficult - it is more of a moderate. Relatively steep, but the steps give you solid footing.

Trail is marked as hard. I would consider it moderate. Nice trail though. Nice views...

Very nice loop trail with a variety of terrain and scenery. Completed this in the evening in a little less than 3 hours. Some parts of the trail are very close to roads and traffic, but other parts are very quiet and private. The old cabin ruins and and geology is very interesting. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. Total recorded mileage was 6.3 miles for the whole loop.

rugged terrain with lots of loose rocks, great scenery + nice trek

I really enjoyed this hike. Covers a large portion of the park. Pretty scenery...

Pretty decent hill at the beginning, nice overlook area but a lot of the trail is near the sounds of civilization; swimming pool, roads, tractors.

Great trail! Definitely keep a close eye on any little ones you bring though. The rocks can be very slippery and there are some steep drop offs. The views are beautiful from the lookout!

Terrain fairly rugged. Lots of steps and incline. Not easy!

Moderately rugged trail. There is a hidden cave off the track worth visiting.

I just found this gem after moving to Jeff Co. I dont find the difficulty very hard as my 3 year old did the hike pretty quickly and with more ease than most hikes we usually do. We did the hike mid March and it was still very beautiful.
