Enjoyable, well used trail that is nicely blazed. The left portion of the loop will take you directly to bluffs overlooking the Meramec River. There are several short side trails from there that give different views of the river along the bluff. The remainder of the trail passes mostly through forest although there are several wet weather streams to cross as well as a couple of glades. The entrance to the Cathedral Cave is toward the beginning of the right portion of the loop but was locked when I passed by.

This trail is about one mile in length if you go out and back (1/2 mile each way). The entire length of the trail is paved. There were some interesting rock and water features along the way. The highlight was a beautiful Red-Eared Slider crossing the trail that posed for a photo.

This was an enjoyable hike through the Ozark woods. There are a couple of wet weather waterfalls. While the trail is mostly wooded, there are some glades that provide a nice view. A thunderstorm blew in while I was at the half way point, which did create a little excitement. The highlight was a Whitetail Deer next to the trail that made a loud snort and ran off as I did some trail running to avoid the rain and lightening.

This trail follows a steep paved service road uphill (if you go left at the start of the loop) and then follows along Highway H leading to the park’s visitor center (which has a great collection of nature and hiking books for sale) and finally it overlaps the Blue Heron Trail back to the starting point.

Excellent hike. It would be good to note this trailhead is directly behind the showerhouse that you will find if you pass the State Park visitor center and take the very next right turn, through the camping area. Start the loop to the right and you’ll be blown away by the views at the end. There are also awesome side trials to take to get great views of the river.

Very short trail but it does climb around and over a good sized hill. I takes you to the top of the hill that Vilander Bluff is on but never gives any views of the bluff or valley below. Found this very disappointing since this is the tallest bluff on the Meramec River. I've seen pictures of the bluffs but it's up to you to do some bushwhacking to try to find a vantage point.

Did this hike on 2.25.18 and loved it. Great views from the bluffs and great exercise on the hike. Pics are uploaded. Plus, see these and more at my IG: wdp_photographyinstructor

Gorgeous, little paved trail. We took our 5 yr old and also pushed an 11-mnth baby in a stroller. A couple of water sources to look at, a little waterfall and an old foundation of some sort of building off in the woods on the left. It's a simple, little trail that's great for even the smallest of kiddos.

Great view of the meramec over bluffs. Nice stands of oak and cedars. Glades. A nice easy walk.

Nice views along the river.

Not really a hike as it's all paved, but a beautiful short walk. If you park at the beginning of the campground it works out to be a little over a mile round trip.

Had a blast hiking this trail! Lookout over the river are worth every bit of the hike. Very well maintained.

Very nice hike for everyone. I would recommend starting by going right instead of left. Trails are very well maintained.

Really an awesome trail. It's quite hilly, but also only 2.75 miles long. Beautiful views along the Meramec River. I love how the trail is narrow and not a huge ugly swath cut through the woods.

Loved the view of the river along the trail. It was such a beautiful color today! Not a great trail to start off on if out of shape, but wasn't too bad.

Nice hike - pretty river views - would definitely go to the right or counter clockwise when doing this trail - less climbing that direction - also can see Cathedral cave on this trail when it is open during the summer months.

Nice hike but very dense vegetation on some parts of the trail. Very pretty mossy ground cover in certain areas!

Short little point to point paved trail - very pretty lake next to it with lots of geese

Vilander Bluff Trail is named for Vilander Bluff, the highest bluff along the Meramec River. The natural surface trail provides trail access to Vilander Bluff Natural Area, a 206-acre natural area known for its ancient eastern red cedars. Some of these cedars, from 300 to 500 years old, grow out of the rocks along the bluff. The trail features an outstanding example of a dry cliff community that contains two very rare species of lichens. The trail also takes hikers through a dry chert woodland and chert savanna before returning to the parking lot.

The trail was built and is maintained by the Miramiguoa Chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalists from Franklin County. In an effort to protect the rare species and the area’s natural features, the trail is limited to hiking only and was constructed without major ground disturbance.

Trail is clearly marked with blazes and trail itself is very defined. Some good views of the Meramec River and hills. Easy trail.

Did this one a while ago. Pretty easy trail. Park is nice because in addition to hiking there is a cave to tour.

Camping was nice, we had 2 families. Trails had some nice scenic areas and the kids really enjoyed it, however as others remarked before me the lack of marking made it difficult to be sure you stayed on the correct trail. The cave tour was great!

I couldn't find this trail, but found one across from the amphitheater in the campground that was a 3 mile loop and pretty nice.
