Gateway Arch National Park, formerly known as the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial was created to commemorate commemorate the Louisiana Purchase, and the subsequent westward movement of American explorers and pioneers, the first civil government west of the Mississippi River, and the debate over slavery raised by the Dred Scott case. The Gateway Arch, Old Courthouse, and Call Center are open year-round but are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Summer Hours run the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. Winter Hours run the Tuesday after Labor Day through the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Gateway Arch Summer—Daily 8:00am–10:00pm* Starts Saturday, May 25, 2019 Winter—Daily 9:00am–6:00pm* The park grounds are open from 5:00am–11:00pm year round. * Last tram leaves one-hour prior to closing The Old Courthouse Daily 8:00am–4:30pm Security Note: Due to security measures at the Gateway Arch, all visitors to the Arch must pass through an airport style security checkpoint.
