on Jacomo Trail

on this hike I encountered 2 copperheads on the gravel part of the trail. while walking on the dirt trail the was an extremely large copperhead hatchery that you have to walk through. the dirt trails are not well maintained nor marked.

Trail was not marked at all and I don’t think it’s even operational anymore. Once you get to the lake, there isn’t a path. There are some steep hills and muddy terrain for parts of it.

Lots of butterflies and wildlife. Very slippery and muddy. Path was overgrown in places and we couldn’t even see the lake.

A quick walk around with paths manageable for kids. Sweet views of Lake Jacomo, some natural springs and creeks. Perfect for a quick getaway.

Jacomo has some of the the best trails in the area! Nothing too strenuous but a lot of reward, it’s quite there too, at time you feel as if you have it all to yourself! Great for bird & wildlife watching.

Lake Jacomo has several great trails but I think this is the best because there’s more to this trail than what’s shown here. There’s a main 2 mile gravel loop, plus two dirt trails (each around 2 miles) on either end and those trails have trails that spur off... one could get easily lost if they didn’t know how to navigate through these woods because not much is clearly marked.

Pretty basic and not much scenery unless you go off the path. Maybe good for young kids.

Beautiful, unpaved, at times rugged trails. I've giked many trails in the Kansas City area and this is hands down my favorite.

I've used this trail multiple times but it needs some maintenance for sure. A couple months ago, my dog and I got covered in seed ticks and it was a complete nightmare. Other than that, it's a great trail.

Portions of this trail appear to be damaged by heavy rains earlier this summer. If we did not have this saved on our Garmin we would have been lost.

Lovely trail. Needs more attention to maintenance. Spiderwebs galore and out of control brush in some places.

Great trails but very poorly marked. Needs more signage. And maintenance of the trails could be improved

Beautiful trail. But we were all completely covered in deer/seed ticks

What is good about this trail is all the secondary trails. Just when you thought you have been on all the trails, you find a new one. September through March is the best time to go on these trails when there are not bugs or weeds on the secondary trails.

Very nice trail with moderate inclines. Well kept. Just wish the one spot they made to see the lake was cleared out so you can actually see the lake.

It was a great trail, the only thing is that when we got home we were covered in ticks!!

This is a nice hike, however it is not in south prairie lee park it is in Fleming Park

Beautiful trail. We saw lots of animals prints.

It has a cliff where you can get the best view of Lake Jacomo, but there's so many teens that will ruin your time.

Fun trail to hike, if you are quiet enough there are plenty of white tail deer to see, smaller trails branch off the loop and can lead you to fun areas.

Take the directions all trails gives you to get a good hiking experience along the lake and park in the four parking spots and follow along the right side of the pond to find the trail. Very underrated spot it looks like to hit the trails for hiking or trail running. Eventually the dirt and rock trails will turn into a gravel path thats not bad and leads up to the first parking area. Not maintained at all, but I enjoyed that. Wear ling socks or pants in the summer. Will definitely be back in winter!

Trailhead: across from the buffalos on E Park you'll see a small 4 car parking lot with tiny pond right by it, park, the trail starts there.
This trail is super easy to get lost on!!
If you're wanting a remote trail run with low traffic and low maintenance this is it!! You start on a well distinguished path then there are tons of off shoots from the trails to take! Some led nowhere, but that was half the fun!

warnings: you WILL get spider webs in your face
high risk of rolling tour ankles with the narrow rocky trail
if you're running you probably will get lost
if you end up on a small gravel road, you'll be able to find another small trail that leads back into the trees!
Have fun exploring!
