Usually clean and well-maintained. Watch out for the d*** Segways.

Have been walking the gateway trail for years. I usually stay on the unpaved horse trail. That way I am not worried about being run over by the bicyclists and am out of their way as well. The horse trail also leads you a little more into the woods, which I like. I love this trail best in the fall and early winter before the snow hits.

Perfect for a fall bike, and it connects with other trails leading off toward other parts of the greater Twin Cities region, such as Stillwater. The trail is not difficult, but it does have a few steep pedestrian bridges. However, it is very nicely paved and well maintained throughout. After the main parking lot (about halfway through the trail), the scenery gets much better; the first half of the trail goes through neighborhoods and a couple golf courses.

This trail is part of the Gateway Trail near Stillwater, MN. I walked the horse trail and it was beautiful and lush underfoot. Although it says this is a 3.6 mile trail it's much longer, depending upon how you walk the loops inside the main trail. Absolutely wonderful this time of the year!
