There is a paved and unpaved trail. I did the unpaved. It was kinda boring. Only 1 view of the lake. It was a mix of tree shade and open area. I went during midday to lower the insects. The highlight was walking past a horse barn. It’s a decent urban trail. Had a rabbit, chipmunk, and plenty of birds. I could hear road noise about a mile either side of the parking area. Other that that it was a peaceful hike. Probably better in the autumn to see the tree colors.

Totally empty, easily accessible to Cities, easy for kids. Very buggy but normal for MN summer. Kids found baby toads, butterflies and saw deer!

Great trail to bike on. Hiking not so much. It’s quite buggy if you’re walking, but shouldn’t be a problem when going at faster speeds. Saw a baby turtle and lots of interesting bugs. It was hot so we turned around part way though the loop.

Heads up: The trailhead is located in the parking lot of a church. The descriptor tags for this trail include “dogs on leash” however when we arrived at the trailhead, there was a large sign stating “No Dogs Allowed”.

I enjoyed parts of this trail, but prefer more shade. I would not do it again. However, I would consider snowshoeing the Homestead trail.

Downright serene at times. Buggy.

Decent trail. In good condition. I prefer more wooded trails and would not do this one again.

This is a nice shady trail and very peaceful. It had rained a lot recently so it was muddy and some areas were so flooded that we couldn’t complete the loop. Will definitely come back when it’s dryer!

muddy in spots (late april, early may) but great little trail for a short hike with my 4yo son. ran into a huge tortoise one hike and a deer on the next. lovely little walk and not entirely flat. theres more trails than this map shows and it is well marked with maps on posts.

Nice springtime hike. Only saw 2 other people close to the trailhead. Terrain varied, pretty streams and lake. Three kinds spring wildflowers. Will be back.

We biked this trail today. Beautiful area around the lake though this time of year to many leaves to see the lake. Well maintained trail. Several elevation changes.

one of the best park ( independence park) and best trail surrounding plymouth, minnetonka, maple plain area. Best place to experience wilderness in an urban area.

I am unsure why this trail was given moderate difficulty - its definitely an easier hiking trail. In a sense it is a hidden gem but my no means will you experience solitary - there are many people and families that visit the trail. So if you want to "get away" this isn't your trail. The trail does go through woodlands and prairie and follows a lake for a while. The trail also allows horses but not dogs (although it seems nobody follows this). Overall your average run of the mill trail but worth a visit every now and again.

Very cute, quiet little trail! You get views of the woods, a lake, and prairies. It is good for a quick day hike! :)
