It’s a good connector trail. I wouldn’t take this for lake views because you aren’t supposed to walk near the cabin area/canoe launch unless you’re the ones renting it. * cabin rentals stop during winter time

Beautiful. Be sure to cross over to the island and head down to the lakeshore.

HikingMuddySnow

Didn’t make it all the way to the lake but with the fresh snow the hike along the creek was beautiful! It was very easy to navigate where to go as it is very well marked. However, I don’t think this would be a very fun trail to go on after it has rained a lot or when the snow melts because it was already quite muddy with some snow.

HikingGreat!

Wonderful trail. Great views south of Lake of the Clouds & the outflow, though no great views of Lake Superior to the North. Today offered 1-2" of new snow, on top of leaves, with temps in the low 30s, which made it quite slippery but still quite do-able. No real steeps. Did the round trip in 3 hours but that was pushing it.

Lots of stairs but beautiful waterfalls. It was a little busy and the water had flooded over so we didn’t complete the loop but stayed on the western side of the trail.

Tons of amazing views from this hike! It was a bit snowy and slippery at times during the hike, but the snow made the forest look even more beautiful.

HikingGreat!

Awesome trail with one of the most beautiful places to see fall colours. Definitely moderate to difficult. I would start from the Government peak trail head as others have suggested. This way your trip is more climactic rather than anticlimactic. Also you don’t run into the crowd or have to wait to park. Start mid to late morning at the latest as you would still have the sun behind you when you get the mouth of the Lake of the Clouds where you can take beautiful pictures for your Instagram. Otherwise, if you are too late, you would be facing the sun which may make the picture-taking a bit more difficult. I have to say, especially during the pandemic, the actual lake scenic area with a parking lot wasn’t that impressive after spending time at a few view points (more beautiful) in the middle of this trail. The large crowd wasn’t helping either. We just used the bathroom quickly and started to head back.

We really enjoyed this trail. The beautiful trees and foliage combined with the gorgeous views from the summit and calming view of Mirror Lake were great for a fall hike. The light snow added an extra layer of beauty. It was a bet muddy as it had snowed a little bit over night. Definitely recommend sturdy walking shoes/hiking boots. We were lucky to pass few people throughout the hike.

HikingGreat!Rocky

We started at the Lake of the Clouds overlooked and hiked for an hour and a half to about the middle and turned back. Making it an overall 4 mile out and back hike. We had gorgeous views but this is definitely a hard trail, lots of up and down and rocks to navigate around. Worth it for the views but definitely be prepared with the right equipment, hiking shoes and trekking poles. Saw lots of people in sneakers which would make it much more techerous. A beautiful hike!

Crazy beautiful hike! Lots of boardwalks and stairs, but well worth it. We went on a week day while it was raining so we had the hike to ourselves, but I'm guessing it can get pretty busy. We encountered a rude booth attendant at the entrance, but everything else was amazing!!

Easy hike, though many stairs. The water falls are amazing, you can get right up next to them. It is very heavily trafficked, so you’d be best to visit at an “off” time. Well worth the visit!

Absolutely stunning views! Very muddy, but it’s doable. If you only get one trail to hike in the Porcupines, this should be it.

Hiking

I was supposed to have a larger hike in total, but due to some changes in the weather and planning the trip a little late in the year, I was only able to get in Escarpment. It was definitely worth getting soaked by the rain and chilled by the wind though. Ill be back to finish what I started.

HikingGreat!

This was a great short hike to get my week in the UP started. I actually thought there uphill portion would be more difficult but the strategically placed benches were helpful. I did get berated at by a fiesty red squirrel but got some great photos of the fall colors on the bridge over the river.

Excellent hike with the best views of the lake! I combined it with other trails (Government Peak, Correction Line and Big Carp River) to make it an all day loop. Best hike in years!

HikingMuddy

I arrived about 3 hours before sunset on 9/28 and started an out and back hike from the Presque Isle camping area. The beginning was scenic near the river. However, the trail was not well maintained, muddy and numerous areas that were swampy within 1/2 mile from the start. I turned around after 4 miles. I was disappointed and never saw Lake Superior.
