This trail was very peaceful. We only encounter a few hikers the day before 4th of July! I would say the rating is accurate for hikers in that it is an easy trail. We deviated some to go onto the island trail to extend the hike about a mile. Saw a few deer and ducks! The trail was market very well and I posted a picture of the arrows that guide all the trails in the park. If you are in the area give it a go, it’s a peaceful hike with some nice views.

Scenic and shady. Beautiful views!

Nice trail and well traveled.

Wonderful views of the lakes throughout. Easy walking trail with a few boardwalk bridges. Moderately crowded.

trail in very good condition. and easy walk, but there was elevation. I highly recommend.

nice flatish trail. lake view at beginning. nice shelter along the way to stop. this was a hybrid hike. Ludington is good for that type of flexibility en route.

Fun trail while camping.

Love this trail! We hike it almost every time we visit with the addition of the Skyline Trail.

Great easy/flat trail. Highly recommend parking in the lot leading to island trail and then connecting to logging. Brought our puppy and walked nearly 5 miles with no issues.

Our first trail at Ludington but it was great! Brought our 5 month old lab puppy and although she was very tired by the end, she was able to complete it with us. Small elevation changes but overall great forest hike with lake views. Even pulled over to the side at one point to hop in the water! Great hike.

This was a great trail just very sandy throughout the last half. Looking at the map, all of the trails were actually very scenic, woodsy, and quiet. Once you go past the last signpost to the last 1.5miles out to the lighthouse it becomes quite exposed and sandy. All of us adults struggled a bit to get through the sand and our legs are very tired afterwards. The sand is probably about 3-4inches deep in parts with just a few significant elevation changes as we got over a dune. The scenic overlook at the end with the lighthouse sent against Lake Michigan was awesome! I wouldn’t do this trail in the summer though because of the sun exposure for the last 1.5 miles. We did almost 7 miles with a scenic detour coming back.

amazing view. easy to follow!

Beautiful 2.0 mile puppy hike. Easy to follow trails.

This is one of our favorite trails!

Fun loop, views of Lake Michigan

Beautiful variety of scenery with a fair amount of moderate hills in the ridge trail section.

A quiet, private trail.

Great trail, kind of busy

This trail is absolutely beautiful. Lots of pine trees, moss on the ground and tree roots. Great views of Lost Lake. Trail was marked clearly. Well worth it.

Doesn’t really feel like a hike. Stairs to the top easy to navigate, nice view in a couple spots. Not impressive considering other hikes in the area.

Clearly marked trail featuring an inland lake and Lake Michigan as well as Big Sable Lighthouse. I would rate this trail as moderate, 2 of the 5 miles are sand and dunes which I think is significantly harder to hike in! Not very busy until you get to the lighthouse. Beware you will have to walk through water as a portion of the trail is currently underwater!

this trail is amazing so much nature to enjoy i can not wait to hike it again

I began my recording late, but did the whole lost lake and part of the ridge trail back to lost lake in Birkenstock’s. Easier than expected but prepare for hills! Beautiful scenery

This is a beautiful trail. The stairs are pretty and you reach great heights. The sand can be annoying but still worth it. It is really worth going around the little island where lakes are on both sides but that area is a little overgrown which makes it difficult to not fall into the water.

great walk. we took our 6 and 4 year olds who were fine the entire time. great views, heavy traffic and lots of dogs. not a ton of wildlife do to amount of people in kayaks and on the trail but that was fine for us. we enjoyed the dragonflies . it is in ludington state park so you have to pay $16 to enter park (traveling out of state, I didn't realize that until we were there).

One of the most scenic and interesting hikes I've ever done in Michigan, highly recommend!

This is my favorite trail inside Ludington State Park. Only the Hamlin Lake loop and the southern Dune Trail are less traveled and the scenery is better here. A nice, (usually) quiet stroll to relax and chat with your mates. Definitely NOT moderate; we hiked it last week with beers in hand. Just a few roots to trip you up. Conditions are very wet, but the trail is sand mixed with wood stairs and a nice boardwalk.

Lovely trail, we followed the ridge north (aptly named trail) clockwise. Beautiful spot where the shelter is near the lake. Pretty and close to the water, next time might picnic there. Whole trail was great. We took the Lost Lake Trail back to the campground which allowed us to walk close to the lake. Would like to try it in fall and winter.
