Explore the most popular hiking trails in Pittsfield State Forest with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Park in the rest area and with your back to the road, walk left towards the forest. There is an opening in the fence where the trail begins.

The trail is well marked in the beginning with Taconic Crest blue blazes then gets a bit sporadic. The snow hid the trail at times and icy spots. There wasn't enough snow for snowshoes but ice cleats would have been helpful and would have eliminated a few wipeouts.

Overall it's a nice and relatively easy rolling (see contour map) hike loop.

Great on a bike! ;)

The entrance to this trail is close to the end of the rest area parking drive.

We had some trouble finding the beginning of the trail. When you arrive at this location, it is a rest area, but there is not much signage about the trail. Unfortunately we went up the jeep trail/fire road to the right for sometime before realizing that we were not on the right path.

Once we got on the path, the trail was well-kept and it was a nice hike. It would definitely do it again.

Pittsfield State Forest is a great park with mixed activities available. I hiked up the Lulu Brook trail, followed a trail and road to Berry Pond and somehow managed to find a sign on the way back down that said "Turner Trail". Beyond the sign, I'm not sure I actually hiked very much of it. Multiple trails crisscross and signage is at a minimum for the most part. I even found a trail that wasn't on the map. Overall, it was a very pleasant walk with a bit of an overlook at the top. Berry Pond was a good stopping place as well. Trails are in good condition, map is helpful, signage - not so good.

I love the Pittsfield State Forest. There is something for everyone here. There are lots of looping trails that you can explore for hours. One of my favorite places. I am going to try mountain biking here as I see their tracks often and want to make some of my own :)
