Too much traffic noise, not a peaceful walk

The BFRT is still snow and ice covered & wet.
I crashed once because of thick ice and idiot walkers holding hands that I was trying to get around. Beautiful 70 degree February day!
10+ mike ride including quiet a bit of street riding up some monster hills on my mountain bike.

very nice for family walking, biking, etc.

Nice, easy trail for biking. Mostly flat and all paved. Starts out at Cross Point towers in lowell provides a pleasant, mostly shaded ride with a lake/beach along the way. Bring a lunch and relax at the picnic tables, or grab a slice of pizza at Zesty’s along the way in Chelmsford.

Bruce Freeman rail trail is now expanded into Acton. The description should be updated to inform walkers and cyclists the features of the full rail trail. The new section called Phase 2 begins in Westford at Rt. 27. The new section includes Westford, Carlisle and Acton. The new section has mile markers and I believe better warning lights at the crossings. There is a bridge that crosses Rt. 2. Many beautiful upgrades to the new section which is all paved as is the first phase. Many benches. There is a winding section that is pretty fun to ride on that is parallel to some businesses. There is a beautiful engraved granite marker pointing you to which direction to continue with miles listed to the towns on the rail trail. At this marker, the rail trail turns toward Acton or you can ride into a park.

Pancake-flat, well shaded, and paved. Great for run, walk, bike, w/short spurs off the side for quick trail hikes.

one of my favorites. only issue is parking. we usually only find parking midway so this makes covering the trail end to end a bit challenging but otherwise a great bet. especially good for families. all paved so not really a hike.

Lots of bikes. All are considerate.

Mostly flat and strait, all pavement for about 5 miles. There are some road crossings where you have to stop, but there are also long stretches of trail where we were flying along in high gear.

I love this trail because it is local to me! It's an easy ride, mostly flat, and paved, something I can do when I don't have a lot of time and I want a safe and easy bike ride. The road crossing in Chelmsford Center is the most unpleasant part of the trip.

This particular section of the trail took more than 20 years to complete. I am inspired by the dedication of the trail planners and developers. This section of trail will eventually connect to a much longer rail trail. I hope the extensions don't take another 20 years to complete.

The trails are well used by walkers and bikers. There are lots of families and kids but it has never felt crowded to me. My favorite section is the longer section past Chelmsford Center. The Lowell to Chelmsford section feels much more urban. It runs underneath major highways and behind a couple of shopping centers.
