Explore the most popular trails in Maudslay State Park with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

The former Moseley family estate on the Merrimack River, this park features 19th century gardens and plantings, rolling meadows, towering pines, and one of the largest naturally-occurring stands of mountain laurel in Massachusetts. Most breathtaking are the ornamental trees and masses of azaleas and rhododendrons that bloom in May and June. An exquisite place for walking, biking, horseback riding and informal picnics. Special Use Permits may be obtained for wedding ceremonies and similar programs. Cultural events are a regular feature during the summer. During the winter a portion of the park is off limits due to roosting bald eagles, but the remainder provides excellent cross country skiing and winter walks. The Parking Fee at Maudslay State Park is $2.00. Annual Passes are available for purchase.

wide, open trails with a nice view of the Merrimack River. Not very buggy. A variety of trails to choose from. There were enormous mounds of horse poop, so hiker beware!! We had the misfortune of using the trail app while hiking and stepped in it

Pleasant half hour walk.

I'd say it's an exaggeration to call this trail moderate. There's a small incline that's just a steep hill, but that's it. Most of the trail is flat and clear, just a nice safe and boring stroll in the woods. There are also almost no trail markers so I had to spend the whole time checking my phone to make sure I was still on the right trail. Overall it was a nice easy hike but if you're looking for a challenge this isn't it!

Not sure why this trail is marked as moderate. nice scenic hike, mild elevation changes, pretty easy terrain.

very pretty views of the water, extremely open, only limited parts of the trail were secluded enough to have a dog off the leash. overall nice trail. There is a parking fee tho; $5 MA, $10 out of state

Had the place to ourselves this morning. Windy near river, but I was warmed up by the time I got there. Trails are nicely maintained, but not marked well. Lots of other trails to take. Used the app to stay on course. Worked perfectly.

Good bike trail

Great place for running/CC skiing, walking dogs or simply rambling. The terrain is wonderfully varied with open fields, rolling hills, tall pine woods and a very scenic ridge along the Merrimack. Epic at sunset. I wish the trails were marked; tough to navigate the 1st time.

It's a very pleasant place to walk. The AllTrails app makes it easy to know where you are and how to get back to the parking area. As mentioned in the description, the rhododendrons must be spectacular in season.

My first time here-very pretty, felt very safe- lots of trails- will definitely do it again

Lots of choices, all of them lovely!

trails are well maintained.

Nice trail. Pretty views of the river. Busy trail on a Sunday morning. Hikers, runners, mountain bikers and horseback riders. Much of it is in the shade, which I like. The biggest downside is that you can hear Road traffic for most of this loop. It’s not a huge issue, but it’s noticeable.

Maudslay State Park is a beautiful place to wander. There are an abundance of trails, many of which loop around the park.

Beautiful, serene, trails. Most people adhere to leashed dog rule, although we have been accosted a few times by off leash dogs so if you fear dogs or have a reactive dog be alert.

Easy hike, lots of interesting architectural structures and gardens.

Well maintained trails however very poorly marked.

Great hiking, beautiful scenery. Hike through the woods, see the lush greenery around the pond and make your way to the shores of the river.

Nice park. Easy to get to. Paid parking most days. Park was closed when I got there, so I did not pay. Lots of open trails with great view along the river. Would have loved to hit all of the trails, but just had time for the highlighted route. 1.7 mile loop.

Another great find....beautiful here!!!
