on Hawley Trail

Hawley, or Dubuque state forest is a hidden gem of single track wonder. The trails are classic New England single track. They are mostly intermediate in skill level, but can lead to epic distance if connected properly. I once connected a 40 mile ride that ranged into Savoy forest and back with some dirt road included. None of the trails are marked and a knowledge of the park is helpful in finding them. The main access point is at the fire station at the eastern edge of the park. Follow the kiln road to the west and look carefully on either side for the trails. There truly are more than 20 miles of visible single track here if you look carefully.
