Located atop South Mountain, Washington Monument State Park is named for the first completed monument dedicated to the memory of George Washington. The Washington Monument is a rugged stone tower that was initially erected by the citizens of Boonsboro in 1827.

Actually, left one car at this trailhead and drove another north to US 40 trailhead. Then hiked south to Monument and then finished back at Turners Gap. The north to south route is easier because the part north from Turners Gap to Monument is about 1 mile ascent. The trail is wide and easygoing, but it can be a long climb.

I made it 26.1 miles. I wasn’t prepared. This is the longest hike I have ever done in a day. I will be back to redo the challenge.

Great 3 hour hike, lots of deer. Bring hiking poles

Awesome view from the Washington Monument. The Monument itself is pretty neat especially being able to go up the spiral stone stairs. There is very little space at the top which would make it difficult to maneuver among more than 4-5 people up/down the stairs. If hiking further south, would recommend taking advantage of the water spout as there isn't much opportunity for water until getting to Gathland (though maybe a spring at one of the shelters...the sporadic one at Crampton Gap Shelter was basically a trickle).

Very easy walk with a nice view. Be aware that it costs money to get into the park.

Overall good trail. Overgrown some in the beginning but fine after that. Lots of rocks. Watch your step. Was about 95 degrees when when hiked it. There was a ton of bugs but was worth it.

Quick side trail to the monument off the AT. Located in the park. Closed for repairs.

Everything up to Black Rock and Pogo was fantastic and easy. A few hills but not too bad. Day 2 exit out to Wolfsville Rd was very rocky, would definitely not recommend that part in rainy conditions, but on a sunny day it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Awesome hike. Great overlook and trails
