Awesome trail close by with many different types of scenery. Loved it!

Loved it!

So right off the batnn the trail isn't marked well. The sign that leads into the trail, which says nothing about it actually being the trail, has a wasp nest in it. There is no sign telling you which way the trail goes, so I went to the right. Bad move, because the trail ended after a minute of running. What's even more fun, there was a nasty wasp nest hiding in the bushes, and one managed to sting me right in the neck. This trail needs to at least be marjed better, and having two wasp nests is kind of frustrating. So... at least until I come back and go the other way, this trail is not recommended. If you do go on it, watch out for the wasps.

scenic. Us and dogs enjoyed. will return

Summer was initiated two days ago, so this was my first summer hike of 2018. I started out at ~6:15 am in pouring drizzle rain and ended in less drizzle but damp conditions. This was fine, no running was intended (at first). I mention the rain because it affected my GPS and navigation in this area, the whole way— be forewarned.

About the hike: I began on an old rail trail that is unmaintained; the wrong way from where I wanted to go. I simply picked up the wrong trail from the parking lot. Again, navigation was an issue. You have to walk from the parking area to your point of start. I had other plans for the morning so I ended up jogging on occasions to make up lost time (again, not my original plan). As the reviewer before me stated, the course takes you around the old mill. The markings are fading, and there is quite a bit of open field hiking with no markings, so I relied on GPS navigation. Obviously, I went off course several times. I bypassed the Land of Promise Trail near the end, but I didn’t want to shortchange on mileage, so I did an out-n-back on Mason-Dixon Trail at the finish.

All in all a great hike, except for the poor markings in some key places. I hope to return to do Land of Promise.

Great trail run! Just Challenging enough to help train for mountain trail run in Colorado. Beautiful views and lots of shaded trees. Trail gets dicey if you’re trying to run it while it’s raining or just after it has rained.

The first part on the tracks is so-and-so, but after you swing back around it gets more interesting. We saw a large amount of wildlife, including many deer, squirrels, a rabbit, and a good sized non-venomous snake that slithered across the trail in front of us! The second half has a fair amount of incline. A great workout.

This was a great trail for me and my puppy! I did my best to follow the topographic map but it would have been helpful to know the color trails. I believe these are the trails you should follow: Park at the mill on Stafford road. Walk up the hill and take the purple historic walking trail. You will come to a juncture. Take the left trail. You will come to another juncture where a white trail is labeled to the right. Take the white trail. You will come out of the woods to a beautiful field and see 2 narrow roads. Cross over them and you will see a white sign pointing through the field to the left. Next you will come to the red trail with an option to turn left or right. Turn left! This is where I went wrong... right will bring you down to Stafford road at the lapidum boat ramp. Stay in the ridge and the red trail will bring you back to the mill!

Nice easy trail, wonderful views, will be going back to this one for sure....kids loved it.

Nice trail, very flat and wide with gravel. Great path for a jogger stroller and kids.

This trail takes you around the old mill and by the Susquehanna River. It also takes you to a small man made waterfall that is truly beautiful.

Nice hike, wet parts due to the recent snow but dog loved it! Would go again

This was a fun hike with some good scenery. I kinda did it in two loops by accident. After coming back to my truck I figured out the part I missed and hiked that too. My recommendation is to start hike to left of mansion. Just go under pipe crossing up stairs and bear left. Historic walk to white land of promise. I'm pretty sure you'll walk by big tree other people have mentioned. It's big! From there follow rock run yellow and you get to walk along nice creek for a little. When you come to man made dam cross road to Wilkinson and grab the orange blaze ( left) from there. After that your on the trail according to app. This way you'll come down ( later) ridge trail red and that's a pretty good ascent.

This trail is wonderful for bird watching and views of the water. The main oath offers numerous water access points where you can spot herons, hawks, and eagles. Black vultures have become quite populated in this area and their numbers can be overwhelming!

Great run with a mix of rolling terrain to moderate climbs. Not marked well after mile 3 but overall a good trail.

Great trail from dam parking lot to Stafford, very flat and wide along the river. A nice smaller trail branches off down to the train bridge. Great mountain biking. I’m looking forward to exploring the rest of the trails.

Definitely not hard. I expected to see a little more water but you're surrounded by trees the whole time so you don't get to see too much. But overall it was a good hike. Wasn't too hard but it had some challenges.

4-star as it was no way near a "Hard" trail. I will consider this a moderate trail at the most. The description of the route is slightly confusing or maybe we missed something. The route (shown in red) is not accurate if we compare the description with the park trails map here http://dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Documents/SSP_map.pdf

Great fall day of hiking on our way to the camp area.

loved the scenery and difficulty of the trail, but keeping the right trail is definitely a task. we ended up with 7 miles instead of 4.

I'd say this is easy not moderate. User footwear of choice seems to be sneakers. Trail is wide, flat, topped with gravel. Parking is across the bridge on the other side of the road where folks are putting into the water.

Hard to follow this trail, even using the map from this app. That said, this is a very pretty park with lots of trails and variety.

Wide, multi purpose trail that offers trekkers, great scenery and sights of the Susquehanna River.

Very nice trail and perfect length for a beautiful day. The second half had a different trail name; farm road trail.

I wish I would of read the reviews before I took this trail. The reviews were right, it's impossible to follow. We also had to hike the road to find the orange trail back to the car. 4 miles turned into 7+ quickly. Was a nice hike but I also would not do this again until they figure out how to better mark the trails.

This trail was impossible to follow. No matter which way I went I couldn't seem to follow the trail. I eventually had to follow the roads before I could hook back up with Trail which resulted in an extra 2 miles being added to the hike. While it's a pretty area and there were some decent elevation on the trail parts that I was able to follow I wouldn't consider this trail again.

Only rated moderate for the distance, as the vertical climbs are fairly easy. Trail had lots of variety - woods, open field and river side. Suggest using alltrails app map as the trail intersections are many and it's easy to miss a turn.

Please make note that distance is closer to 7.5 miles.

lots of trails to make the hike as long as you like.

Great trail! Beautiful scenery and the path was clearly marked and easy to navigate for the most part. Had fun climbing over rocks and a tree trunk to cross the water and it's a lot of uphill work but worth the trek!

One of the better trails I've done at this park. Great site seeing! Had a BLAST!
