The Purple trail has a lot of ups-and-downs, and has plenty of clearance between the trail and surrounding brush. The trail could be suitable for equestrian use, but keep in mind there are low-hanging branches and vines along the trail. The Willis House ruins are visible to the south about 1/4 mile into the hike, if you take the loop counter-clockwise starting from the Gallaher parking lot.Show more

This trail can be walked in two loops one on the right with Big Elk Creek and the other loop on the other side, but returning and walking back through the tunnel the crosses Gallaher Rd first. The park has since removed the bridge/overpass that used to exist that connects the trail crossing over the Gallaher Rd at the second crossing on the map. It goes through some overgrown grass fields.
