Great trail - actually part of the billy goat trail but using the early access path to make the loop shorter. Lots of walking over large rocks, and a 40ft traverse/scramble but not bad when going up it. VERY busy trail though, would recommend weekday or early.

3.3 miles, Gold Mine trail from Billy goat parking lot, several creek crossings, not crowded AT ALL, humid, shaded the whole way, good little hike, family friendly

Nice trail, very shady, some decent hills. Not well marked in places, so we made a few creative additions to get back to the path. At the moment there are some downed trees near a stream, which made for the most challenging bit of navigation. Note, no actual waterfalls on this trail...the falls are in the park to the south.

Lots of people out and about. Mostly shady and simple.

Nice shaded path for warmer weather days. There were a lot of bicycles “on your left” out but still a nice walk

Really pretty and shady trail. Went in the afternoon during the week, and while there were lots of people for the walk along the locks nearby, only a couple people went on this loop. Would do it again as there are a couple spurs you could take to explore more.

We did Trail A and it was very rocky and beautiful! Some of the rocks are slipper so ensure you have proper footwear.

Nice walk along the canal - see three lock houses - one of which you can stay at (#6) watch canoeing on the Potomac - easy rather than moderate though - this is a flat walk not really a hike

Enjoyed scaling the rock formations along the river. Great trail, took a little longer than originally expected. Section 2 of billy goat trail closed.

The part of the trail that is towpath is very nice and easy. Once you’re on the billy goat trail it turns more difficult. It’s definitely properly named and a ton of fun!

This was my first hike and we started at the end, across from Old Angler's Inn (they don't serve breakfast/brunch on Sundays until 11a). Parking was free from that end. We made it to marker 2 then cut up to C&O canal and walked back for a 2 mile hike. There were challenging teeny tiny climbs, but overall I could do it... Wouldn't take any kids under 8 though.

Great trail for our hybrid bikes! Very well shaded, mostly flat, and lots of available parking spaces. A little buggy but not overwhelmingly. And there's a great creamery just 3 mins up the road for an after-bike treat!

I started at the McLean trailhead off of Live Oak Dr (you can park around the culdesac) and hiked all the way to Arlington/Roosevelt Island. Overall I 21.6 miles (either lost gps for two miles or I accidentally paused my recording and didn’t resume recording for about 2 miles). I believe the trail is closer to 21 miles as I did get off trail a little and had to hike back. Anyway, I would not hike all the way down to Arlington as the trail gets pretty trashy (literally) and smelly. But I would hike to Key Bridge and back and maybe do turkey run trail on the way back to make it more loop-ish.
