Beautiful trail with bridges over raging water. The overlook is very beautiful. Can get very crowded. Took us a little over a half hour total.

Not and easy hike, with rock scrambling and a challenging 50 foot rock climb/descent.

It’s a great trail but I won’t categorize it as easy. There is a 50 feet cliff on this trail so be prepared for that. A lot of basis level bouldering involved

Non-strenuous walk, fantastic views on the bridges of the falls and awesome locks. Fun place for a walk or passthrough hike/ride. Love coming here. Great walks, and fantastic views of the Potomac. A few nice lookout points, and great spots for some scrambling and bouldering rocks. Tons of parking, bathrooms and concession staff during peak times, and fun for people of all ages. There is a small fee to get in but well worth. Can get busy during the summer. It not so much at other times...

Went here for a hike with my husband and even though part of the trail was closed due to flooding it was a nice hike.

Beautiful views but very difficult. It was crowded today which was fun but did slow things down. Surprised to see small children.

More hiking than I expected. Way harder than I thought.

2nd time we've done this and still loved it! It was pretty busy even at 8:45 in the morning (Anglers parking lot was full) but we were really only held up a little at a few points.

We love it there. Weekends are pretty busy so get there early.

Tackled section A. Definitely not for the unprepared, and there are signs that will tell you so. Lots of rock bounding, climbing, and an awesome 50' almost sheer cliff to make your way down. One of the most fun trails I have ever been on, but I would not do it alone, out of shape, or under-supplied

it should be noted that this "easy" version of this trail is not shown on the map that you download from AllTrails, and the main photo above is also not part of this hike. If you enter at Anglers and cross the bridge to the towpath, Billy Goat A is to the right (the entrance to this trail is on the right in the main photo)...this trail is pretty difficult and comes with lots of warnings. The actual easy trail (Billy Goat B) is to the left after you cross the bridge at Anglers.

a friend and i completed all 3 trails in about 6-6 1/2 hours tracked it at 12 miles round trip from the welcome center parking lot. great experience. "A" trail is most difficult.gets to a point where you are scaling a wall . but not too bad, 8-12year old children completed the task at hand.
would definitely recommend it.

Obsessed with rock scrambles, this is my favorite DC area trail. It's just enough challenge to make you feel like you accomplished something. Wear shoes with good traction -- a couple years ago I didn't and rolled my ankle, slipping down a sandy boulder. This trail gets PACKED on weekends and during exceptional weather. It's worth taking off a couple hours during the work week to skirt the crowds. Go at least twice to try both directions; the trail somehow feels different. I like to park in the lot by Old Angler's Inn, rather than entering the park, but you MUST go very early or late to get a spot. If you're newer to hiking, but ready for a challenge, this is a good trail to start. Enjoy!

simple and easy loop - pretty much gets repetitive after coming here so many times...now its just super crowded and not as fun as it used to be as the trails seem to be getting worn down

An absolutely beautiful trail. I enjoyed every second of it. My only complaint is that it was a little busy and there were some moments where you had to wait on other people to cross some sections of the trail. Other than that it was totally worth it and tons of fun!

Good trail for nice long walk. Bad trail to bring your doggie. There's a lot of other people hiking and walking around.

Unfortunately the first part A of the Billy Goat hike is closed till June. Also the Great Falls lookout hike is closed ( not sure until when. ) This looks like the trail to get the great view of the Falls. It is several KM flat walk along the canal and river to reach the B and C part of this trail.
Will return to do part A another time.

Good trail, very dynamic. Especially fun if you like to rock climb as well as hike

Great trail with a lot of views. Way too many people to make enjoyable for a personal hike. Beautiful landscape
