Well marked trail with rewarding rock outcrops . Great 1/2 day hike. We like to do this in early spring and late fall.

AMAZING HIKE!! Absolute smoker if you love hiking for time!!

Some nice views and challenging terrain at times. Walking through the woods was beautiful!

It was good not that great. but you will have couple of good views up there. for me its good experience because i climbed rock which is little bit challenging.

We really enjoyed this hike. With the easy rating, we expected it to be flat but were pleasantly surprised by the inclines.

We decided to kick of the 4th of July with a booty burner hike! It was already 85 degrees when we woke up. We sweated our ass off and got a good hike in. It was around 100 degrees by 11 am. We took the dog and ended up only doing 2.3 miles because he was struggling in the heat and we didn’t want to push him. We passed a dog that was extremely stressed and over heated on the way up. Park service came to assist the owner in getting the dog down the trail to get help. It was hard to see the dog in that condition. I’ve thought about the dog all day and pray he made it. Bring PLENTY of water to hydrate for everyone!!! Great hike. Looking forward to finishing the entire loop another time.

Great hike! Cooler than staying in DC! Lots of boulders to climb!

great loop, beautiful vistas. the falls were somewhat crowded.

Fun hike. Nice overlooks and rocks for good bouldering action. I’ve taken this hike many times...

Did the Thurmont loop today and it was a great hike. I think moderate is correct. Can be a challenge if you are not in decent shape. Plenty of climb and rocks but no real challenge. Keep your pace up and you will feel it. The view wasn’t great today since it was a pretty grey overcast day. Butterflies everywhere since there was plenty of milkweed and wildflowers. Very pretty. Just a few people on the trail. We did somehow take a small wrong turn near the end missing a purple blaze somewhere but the little bit of extra on the orange/red route was great. Have fun!

Proper shoe wear is a must. Lots of bugs.

nice hike, plenty of shade, some muddy spots.

I would not say this is hard but more moderate. It however was very rocky in places. The first stop we could not really see anything just trees but was a nice hike. Chimney Rock was a nice view no snakes while we were there but lots of lizards. It was worth the walk.

Fun trail with nice views, good elevation changes, and friendly people. Most of the hike is in the shade with a good halfway point parking lot with bathroom and picnic tables.

Nice view at chimney Rock, actually saw a juvenile rattler so beware. had a 3 year old and that was tough at times but he was a champ. Def a tough Rocky trail, wouldn't recommend unless you are ready to sweat.

Probably one of the best hikes for the area!! Crossing the road to get to the falls was a little precarious and some of the trail has stretches that run alongside the road unfortunately. It did have some fun challenges though and wolf rock was pretty cool to see! Definitely recommend doing it counterclockwise. I did also catch a woodpecker in action!!

Very nice people helping us get to know trials

If you are desiring serenity I recommend getting their early. The first mile runs parallel with the road and it's heavily traveled. The Rocks are pretty sweet once you do finally get there. I'm glad I did it but I wouldn't do it again. Sorry I did Glen Onoko the weekend before so that's really tough to beat.

A 1.5 mile hike if you park at the headquarters so it's nice with kids. It's supposed to be okay for dogs, however it's steep and rocky, so only for athletic dogs with tough paws.

Expected it to be more flat but had a good time.

I did this trail as a shakedown hike with my new backpacking gear. Made a reservation for 1 of the 2 shelters (equipped with outhouse and fire pit) that are located close to the halfway point. Perfect setup for this, or even just for a quick overnight trip. The trail has some moderate ups and downs, nothing to serious. Well marked trail. I loved the shelters. The surrounding trees are gorgeous and a little stream meanders behind the site. Leaves were not yet on the trees, so stargazing was possible and the sky was dark enough to see more than in town. I will definitely be back!

fun hike that is not too crowded, has some rock scrambling if you want along wolf rock and amazing views of the town below

I went last week. Nice hike. When I got to the vista though, a large group was already there so I didn’t have a place to sit to admire the view.

Pretty easy hike. It only took me about 3.8 hours but it was worth the drive. views were cool and the waterfalls was a nice one.

Great Saturday morning hike. I wouldn’t call the loop a hard hike, maybe a medium hike.

Views weren’t great. the waterfall was nice, but wasn’t part of the extended loop

Nice scenery and a fun little extra trail to tack on to my trip to this park. A little bit of history was a bonus.

I parked at the park headquarters, and instead of doing the whole loop (that would take you along the road for a while) I went to chimney rock then wolf rock and then turned around back to the car. The rocks are so fun to climb on and the views are awesome! Wouldn't rate it as challenging, lots of kids and dogs on this trail.
