We were surprised that Rangely Trail Center did not pop up when we searched in AllTrails.com for trails near Rangely. It seems that the Trail Center is primarily for Cross Country Skiing and snow shoeing, but we had a good time walking there.

We did the hike to the Picnic Table on the lake. Some of the terrain was a bit rough due to the many roots we had to climb over, but our feet stayed dry in late Sept.

A delightful thing about this walk was that there were little gnome houses, with gnomes inside of them, along the way. Kids would love this.

This is a solid 3 star hike due to the rocky access road (we walked) the mindless paths from the parking lot, and a fairly easy to follow yellow-blazed bushwhack to the summit. The summit has no views - the final 1/2 mile in the woods is pretty steep, but okay. This is a good "intro to navigation" or bushwhacking type hikes. It's the easiest summit within the Maine six pack to try. Some decent views can be had from the parking lot (not where we parked - but see the waypoint on the map 4 miles in).
