I don’t think this is an easy trail as everyone thinks. It is straight downhill to the river and then when you take the loop to Deep Hollow it’s steeper back up. However, it is a scenic trail so I will give it credit for beauty. Might try again in the fall!

No dogs allowed, there’s a cool bridge with a bench on it on the deep hollow trail.

Fast but fun trail, plenty of views and cool things to see!

Nice view at the river. The Challenger Trail down is a former road. The Deep Hollow trail back up was a narrower and more scenic path.

Nice hike that takes you through the woods and down to the river. There's an old barn, well, outhouse, and picnic pavilion close to the river. Definitely take the Deep Hallow trail back to the top. It's shorter and the scenery is beautiful.

Really enjoyed this trail. During our hike we found the trails to be well marked and easy to follow. The state nature preserve must have done some work to clean the last bit of the trail up. This was a great trail for solitude, we never saw anyone else the entire trip. We did see tons of wildlife including squirrels, deer, turtle, Hawks, and song birds. There were also several different species of wild flower growing. Will hike again.

It was a nice hike! Trail was easy to follow! I'd like to come back to run it sometime

The last .25 to .5 miles of trail are poorly marked and I went overland back to parking lot. Had I not made this mistake this would have been an easy walk and great with kids.

love these trails I usually take the challenger down and deep hollow back up. The end of deep hollow is straight up hill and is poorly marked. Beautiful scenery and when the river is down its a great place to stop and picnic. Licking river is at the end of the challenger once to the clearing it is pretty overgrown. Kids loved it!!

Hard to find. Off Pughs Ferry Road there is a gravel pull off with a gate. That is entrance. DEEP HOLLOW sign points right but we started left. The walk back on the CHALLENGER was very pretty but more uphill. Very nice day with my teen boys. Ponds, snakes, a creek, bridge, barns, the river and mud. A nice day.

Agree with earlier review. Follow the "Challenger" trail to access Licking River.

Nice collection of a couple shorts trails, just off the beaten path. Kind of hard to findthe only designation is a small gravel lot with a red gate and tiny yellow sign indicating it's a State Preserve.

There were no maps available in either our Central KY guide-book or at the trail head so this is very much an adventure hike. Certain spots of the trail are poorly marked and quite overgrown but with a little intuition you can find your way around pretty easily. From the trail head, heading towards "Deep Hollow" yields a pretty sweet & secluded rocky bank on the Licking River, perfect for lunch or skipping stones.

As mentioned in other reviews elsewhere, this one may be a little far out to visit unless you're in the area and looking for something to do.
