Explore the most popular trail running trails in Mammoth Cave National Park with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Trail has been chewed up by horses in some areas and several spider webs (in late summer) indicate how little this trail is used. Good for an overnighter.

Not very challenging in terms of elevation but distance is a consideration. Well marked trail and good opportunity to see a lot of backcountry. We went in mid October and only saw two other people and there were no bugs at all.

The whole thing took us about 4.75hrs with a 30min break for lunch. Horses are not permitted on the two loops but mountain bikes are.

Park at Maple Springs Trailhead parking lot and catch the connecting trail from there.

Pretty trail! Be aware of some mosquitos near the water, but nothing some bug spray can't fix.

Did this trail the day after it rained and it rained while we were on it. extremely muddy with large sections tore up by horses. With only a few short steep inclines I didn't find the trail practically challenging. Some parts aren't well marked and are hard to distinguish had to double back a couple of times. There are some large rock formations that make for good photo ops but for the most part the scenery is sub par.

Awesome trail. Very beautiful scenery. Lots of wildlife. An outstanding 1 hour hike

Loved this hike! We cobbled together the Sunset Point, River Styx Spring, and Green River Bluff trails to create a good loop. This trail has some good inclines and great overlooks of Sunset Point, the River Styx Spring, and the Green River. Also took a short detour to Dixon Cave. Saw a few deer as well.

nice trail with beautiful views. Close to the visitor center

Fun trail. Offers different options of you want to take shortcuts. Very wooded hike (wear your bug spray). Fun addition to a Mammoth Cave tour.

Amazing park! Well kept trails, family friendly. I must see place :)

My wife and I completed this trail in under 4.5 hours with a brief stop for a snack halfway through. The trail was very well-maintained and clearly marked. Apparently, this is a popular mountain biking trail, which is something to be aware of. We encountered four different riders, two of which gave warning so that we could get out of the way, but one came around a corner and seemed just as surprised to see us as we were him. No big deal, just be aware. There is tree coverage for probably 98% of the trail, so it felt about 10 degrees cooler on the trail than when we got back to the trailhead to leave. There were plenty of bugs(mostly gnats), but we barely noticed while we were walking. Saw a deer, a snake, and plenty of frogs. There are two reasons I gave the trail a 4/5. First, the trail offers plenty of visuals of woods and hills, but little else. Also, parts of the trail put you very near the main road, which can be noisy and ruins the illusion that you're out in the middle of nowhere. With little change in elevation, the distance is the only challenging part of the hike, but that is depending on your level of fitness. Overall, it was a good trail for a morning or afternoon hike. I would definitely recommend it.

Nice easy trail.

Great trail for kids, the elderly and for handicapped people.

trails are really tore up

great views and so quite please, I love it, I will come back again for sure...!

this is the easy end of a moderate trail. I did the whole this with me, my dog and boyfriend. It was flat for the most part, very well marked and east to naviagte. Wasnt very busy saw only a few people. Be careful there are bikers on the trail. BEWARE! of many horse flies, i got bit twice by them. But over all the trail is awesome.

We accessed this one from the Echo River trail. It's a connector trail and it's easy just like all the rest.

Very scenic, well marked and maintained. Not too strenuous. Challenging, but not intimidating. Did the Violet City Cave tour in the afternoon!!! Great Day!

Trail was in good condition. Several benches along the way if you need to rest, as well as overlooks with nicely constructed decks and walkways.

Trail in very good condition, trees provide ample shad and some nice views of the green river. Elevation changes pretty easy to manage.

Can be done in a day if starting early. This is a relatively flat trail that you can easily crank out high mileage. Horses have really hurt the trail, and views are limited but better in the winter.

very pretty trail

Not as scenic at the beginning as it is at the end.

My husband and I took our pit bull and Bassett with us on this trip. It was a good hike, especially for dogs!

Hiked this trail late May and it was absolutely beautiful! It was very well kept and was marked well. The loop has many places where you can cut the hike short and head to the visitor center. We did a 4.25 mile hike in the morning and caught a cave tour in the afternoon.
