This is one of my favorite trails to run. Always a pleasant time. The wildlife has become accustomed to people as I have multiple times seen deer 20yards from the trail not giving me any mind, or moved the occasional turtle.

Great trail. A lot of rocks. We were there at 11:30 AM on a Saturday and it was very busy. We would do it again earlier in the morning to avoid the crowd.

The environment is extremely harsh for plants and mushrooms, which is why there’s not much scenic changes between summer and winter. Good thing is almost half of the trees are still alive! So if you are interested in it, be hurry while there’re still some green left.

Always in great shape as they close them when a drop of water hits and 48 hours after. I wish bikers used bells though, had a few jump scares today.

Great paved trail. Lots of traffic. Be carful about your path as there are many different routes that branch off along the way.

I really enjoyed this trail, if you’re looking to do the 6.5 mile loop I suggest starting at Shelter 8 and then going to Walnut Grove, the signs are easier to follow that way. The violet trail consists of 3 loops (2.85, 1, and .7 miles) and a connector (.76miles) so you can change up your length and/or direction. Part of the violet trail is also equestrian so there is some poop to watch out for. I went on a Sunday late afternoon and it was pretty busy but then I also went Tuesday and Wednesday after work and the trails weren’t too busy. It is very rocky, there are some roots sticking out and some fallen trees (makes for a more interesting hike in my opinion) also various inclines. I’d suggest bringing water, especially in the heat and there is a nozzle on the connector that you can refill. Lastly it does close when/after it rains to avoid damaging the trails so be aware of that.

Great trail with a nice mellow elevation gain or loss here and there. Nothing too difficult. Portions of the trail are in and out from forestry to fields, giving you great views and then quickly setting you back into the shade of the trees. I would not say it is a good beginner trail just because of distance but the trail is overall good beginner terrain. Very uncrowded!! During July (I feel a busy time) and only came across a few other friendly people along the trail.

Great trail, but you might want gloves for your vibrations. Otherwise great views if you’re looking for a challenge.

over all a pretty good hike! the right half is smooth and the left half is rocks and roots. a lot more traffic than ive seen on any of the other trails at shawnee park. We were able to complete it pretty quickly! Will come again! this is our 2nd fav at this park!

what I disliked: this trail has a lot of rocks and tree roots in the path. the path is very thin. its very hard to get out of the way of others. we cleaned up 3 water bottles on the trail. the scenery was like a forest setting but most of it was dead. not appealing to the eye. What I liked: that it wasn't all shade. there was parts that the sun could shine through on. it was a perfect length hike. very little to no traffic. ran into 3 people and 1 dog. peaceful.

I’d rate this as a high tier beginner-intermediate trail. Well paved trail with steady rises and drops in elevation (nothing most people would suffer from, it is Kansas after all but still worth mentioning.) Terrain varies from flat ground to rocky paths riddled with vines of different sizes; take caution to pay extra attention throughout these stretches or else you may sprain an ankle easily or worse hit your head on a rock. A solid trail to mildly challenge yourself to or for conditioning purposes.
