Nice trail. Easy. Part dirt, part gravel. However trail is not as shown in this app. Review trail maps recorded by others in this app for a more accurate trail map.

Nice short trail. Path is graveled. The final hill going down to the parking lot is steeper and has ravines. The park rates this trail as moderate but other than the last hill, it’s not that bad.

Did trail 3 and 4, both trails are well marked. They both have steps in some areas.

Lots of experience levels and choices. Trail 4 and 1 and through Pioneer Village was our main route. Trail 5 was flooded by lake water so we did a bit of a half and fourth!

Good trail... We took trail #4 from the parking lot. Went by two cool caves, the pioneer village, and monument that is 200 years old. Very cool trail. We went in February on a 45 degree day after it had snowed so was a muddy mess on the back side of the trail but other than that a lot of fun!

Beautiful scenery. The trail was wide enough for two to walk side by side. Met several people walking the trail. Enjoyed our day!

I've hiked Spring Mill on a few occassions (first time in 1989). The first time was with my parents and siblings and I have since taken my kids for a 4 day stay. Back in the 80's and 90's they had a program called "Mocassin Mile" which was led by a naturalist where they showed you the different plants and spoke of their uses/value. The Pioneer Garden is a great site and the living historians working at the Village are always helpful and full of nice tid bits about the history. Don't forget to grab a bag or 2 of the fresh ground corn meal...
My last trip was in June of 2010 but we have been planning another trip now that the youngest is 8. Don't forget to check out the caves if it is safe to do so during your trip.

We wandered through the beautifully created "village" of log buildings, including the massive mill, where we watched corn being ground for the Inn's kitchen. After lunch at the Inn buffet, we started on Trail #1 just outside the back of the Inn. Trail #1 goes down the hill to a road and #5 Trail, which loops around the lake, can be picked up on the opposite side of the road after climbing over a large pipe. The trail is mostly shady with dappled light coming through the trees. Ground ranges from smooth to rocky and rooty. We stopped to watch a large school of small fish that were swimming in a pool below a spillway near a bridge on the path. The fish were attempting to jump the spillway! It was like a mini-salmon run that was doomed to failure, but entertaining for a brief rest on the trail. Further on the trail, we stopped at the Nature Center and chatted with one of the interpreters and cooled off before we climbed back up the #1 trail back to the Inn. It was a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon in the woods. I would definitely go back to do more of the trails, some of which lead to caves of various sizes. The Inn offers a lovely place to stay and play for families. Beautiful indoor/outdoor pool and nice play room.

Grew up near here and many trips on this trail. I always enjoy seeing the caves and cooling off in the air that comes out of them. Seems to have less traffic than the other park trails.
