Pretty Trail with great tree-top views. I wish there were less signs on the trail but still enjoyed it!

Great hike. We wondered off coarse a little but the hike was great.

I hiked this trail in mid September. The corridor of the trail is a little tight with overgrowth, mainly stinging nettles. Be prepared with mosquito spray, as the trail follows the little calumet river, and it is a haven for them. All in all, it's a nice little trail for access to the river, mainly to hike. You can do a little trail running, but mountain bike are not allowed.

Nice easy hike with views of Dunes, Marshes and forest. A few climbs but nothing really difficult. Tasty sassafras, too!

The trail is an easy to moderate hike for beginners with a few tall inclines which made it a little harder than expected. We took the long loop and the only complaint I have is the bugs. They were determined to be in my face; so even with lots of spray, I was fanning them away continuously with the trail map. I'd hate to see what they're like when there's actually been rain.
Did see some cacti and some other cool flowers I haven't seen before. There was even a cute little garter snake on the trail.

This is a nice trail. If your out of shape be prepared to be sore, it's quite an up hill climb. Great to take your dogs to, to tire them out and get rid of some energy. I have heard of coyotes being out here so make sure to keep dogs leashed.

Beautiful trail! Good changes of scenery, all in my backyard!

Liked it and hated it. It's been decades since i've even been on this much sand, but i can handle hills & stairs, so i wanted to try the 3 Dune Challenge.
These Dunes kicked my butt!! I'm an older heavy set guy that had a heck of a time trying to climb the dunes. Every step up the dune resulted in a foot sliding back a half step or more. Took me 3 times as long to climb a dune than i expected. And Going down the 2nd dune, Mt. Holden, i slid 2-3 feet for every step down.
This was one loaded challenge. It was not as easy as others said. I'm sure that's due to my size working against me trying to climb. Thankfully after the 2nd Dune there is a shortcut trail back to the start by the Nature Center. The Dune Challenge is on Trail 8, Trail 7 splits thru the middle, simple trail.

Beautiful trail. I saw an owl and other wildlife. Peaceful. Some parts of the trail have steep drop offs on one side into the stream below so heads up.

We loved this hike. Just rough and long enough for us old guys. Did have some problem finding the trails again once crossing the roads. Other than that it's a great hike.

The trail was beautiful and offered a lot of spots to climb on trees and see wildlife. Especially loved how hidden it was!

Great place to hike and walk the pooch

This is a great trail. It's full of wildflowers & prickly pear cactus in the summer. Lots of birds as well. It takes you through a bog & up a dune. Great views. If only you could cut out the sounds of the highway & trains!
Bring bug spray in the summer.
Lock your car & be aware of your surroundings.

This is an absolutely gorgeous and serene hike. Not only do you get to experience historical sites, but forest, field, and swamp. From beginning to end the walk took us around 3 hours, and came to a total of 5 miles. Terrain was rugged in parts, and still muddy towards the end of the trail, but it's nothing that a good pair of hiking boots can't handle. The walk is stroller friendly, as long as you have a partner to help through the muddy bits. My only complaint is that you have to cross a busy street to get to the cemetery!

Great Park. This trail visits the shore line but also climbs the dunes

Better hike in the park. You follow the shoreline and you hike the inner dunes. Lightly traveled so should have solitude
