This is lake country and a small boater's paradise. Nine connecting lakes will be the center of your adventures at Chain O'Lakes. Paddle through the chain of serene kettle lakes, hike the 10 miles of forested trails, fish the electric-motors-only lakes, stay overnight in a forested hillside family cabin, or visit the park's old one-room schoolhouse nature center. Other facilities available for visitors to enjoy include a campground, beach and picnic shelters.

Refreshingly well kept park! I can see this being a trail of moderate complexity during the rainy season but on a dry 7-Sep with perfect hiking weather it was a breeze! You are in Indiana, if you are hiking mid spring to end of summer there will be mosquitoes everywhere especially if you’re near water- deet will always be a must. This is not specific to this trail or park, if you’re going into the woods be prepared...

Overall, this is a good trail. Very few, to no switchbacks which makes a few areas a bit steep. Areas close to the lakes were muddy. Beautiful views the whole way.

simple and easy trail

Indiana trail 100 loop. Really great trails ranging from grass, gravel and buffed out trail. There are only a few points where you need to watch your footing and most if not all of it is runnable.

It had just rained so the trail was a little slippery but the bridges were in good condition. And the wild flowers were all blooming along the trail. There’s quite a few bugs though so bring bug spray.

Great hike. Moderate. Be aware. Bowen Lake Trail 2 is Full of surprises. With high rain accumulation there are certain spots in which the trails are covered by swamp like water/mud. You will need water proof hiking boots to complete the entire trail.

Hiked 6/29/19. Hike the west half only. Easy hike. Lots of mosquitos.

Great Sunday fun hike.

Very scenic trail. A few big hills but nothing too intense.

Abigail and I enjoyed this trail a lot. There were numerous loop possibilities from 1 mile to 10 miles and the trails were well-maintained and wide enough to hold hands. Nothing too hilly although there were a few minor hills. Could’ve walked all day. Good wildlife especially beavers.

under estimated these trails. was nice clear trails around the lakes.

they were working on a bridge but other than that a great trail

nice wide trails

Cameras or words cant fully capture it. Late Novemeber run and had to stop a couple of times just to take it all in. Truly a hidden gem.

A great place to spend the day, no matter the season, to enjoy this gorgeous Indiana landscape. There's tons to do here for everyone; history, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, camping. This place is beautifully forested, so as I said, any time of year is great to see. The leaves turn brilliant shades in the fall which reflect beautifully off the water. In winter, snow covers the rolling hills and the lakes freeze, making it a winter wonderland. In spring, Indiana wildflowers pop up all along the trails to be enjoyed (I've heard morells are great here too, but shhhh...). In the summertime, there's plenty of opportunities to cool off, be it in the shaded forests or in the lakes themselves.

The trail was wide and maintained very well. Don’t expect great views of the lake, the vegetation makes it hard to see between the trail and the water most of the time. The terrain is generally pretty flat and a great hike, however!

Trails maintained nicely, nothing difficult about trails, great for distance running-walking. Look for the GE40 arrows, it's a great loop not all of which is on the state park trail maps, I would venture a 20 mile loop as I've only done up to 13 so far.

Chain O’Lakes is one of my favorite state parks in Indiana. Love the elevation changes, the gorgeous sunsets, the birds and the beavers! The dogs and I come here as often as we can. This is actually 11 trails and a Indiana 50/100mile trail instead of one big loop. Most loops are under a mile but trail 6, 10 & 11 are 2-4miles. There is also the yellow Indiana 50/100 trail which is not on the park’s map. Most of the trails are packed mud, sand or gravel though sometimes you come across water logged mud patches or areas of leaf and gravel litter. What is nice is that horses are not allowed here so the trails are not destroyed or covered in manure! Lol

Hiked in the fall and experienced some beautiful views of the lakes with woods background. Trails are well maintained and marked. Good forest views away from lakes. Love this park.

The best fun is had when you go off the trail— there are some felled trees that make cool bridges. Just don’t get lost!

There are 12 trails at Chain 'O Lakes SP. Trail 9 is marked rugged, but it seemed more moderate to me. You can indeed make a loop out of all the trails. Some go around the lakes or channels. Some are in meadows. Very nice hiking in Eastern Indiana! Bring bug spray in the summer.

This is my favorite place to hike and run. Beautiful every season.

This was without a doubt one of the coolest parks that I have ever been too. The tranquility is off the charts and there is so much to do and see here. I would recommend visiting and look forward to going back myself.

I went and did most of the loop 2 weeks ago when the red buds were in bloom; majestic AF. No other soul was encountered except mother earth in her finest form. Walking around the Lakes made me feel as if i was in a Japan with the pink blooms and still water.

Plenty of trails here. We completed trail 10 to 6 to 1 for just over 5 miles. This time of year traffic is zero, but this trail would be amazing in fall. some stairs on trail 6, but not many.
