Want a peaceful, relaxing day of picnicking, hiking, fishing and good old fashioned family fun? Hennepin Canal Parkway State Park is just the place you're looking for. Spend the day and bring a picnic lunch along. There are plenty of picnic tables at the 104.5-mile linear park which spans five counties (Rock Island, Bureau, Henry, Lee and Whiteside).

We started in Colona rode to Genseo and back. Trail route is great, sadly it is in need of TLC. Definitely not a road bike trail. It is necessary to get off and walk your bike through the ditch when the trail ends randomly. I would definitely do it again though.

Very flat trail that parallels the Hennepin Canal.

It is paved all the way, but since the road is not maintained very well, grass has overtaken the road in many places and in places there are potholes. No tree roots though!

I ran this trail from Sheffield to Colona mainly at night. I imagine this would be a beautiful run during the day. Depending upon the time of day there would be very little shade since trees only are on one side of the trail.
