Great autumn hikes

Not only is this the longest trail in the park, it is also the best IMO. Once you turn the corner and head west towards the first bridge, the tunnel of trees is a really cool sight. The western edge also looks like a scene from Little House on the Prairie. Very well maintained, too.

The Woodland Trail is a nice mix between the prairie of the Sun Trail and the forest of the Friends Creek trail, in a nice 1 mile distance. It shares the parking area and the approach path with the Sun Trail, which makes for some nice views of open prairie and a small wetland, then ducts into the trees and continues along Friends Creek. I was impressed by how many cool trees were present along this trail. Also, since it had been raining, I appreciated the river rock along areas where wash outs had left the path muddy.

Decided to make a visit to Friends Creek, as I grew up only a few miles away. It had been a while since I'd been out there, and I was really impressed by the quality of the small country park. I knew this would be a bit of a roll of the dice, as it's been raining...and I remember that the trail runs along the creek most of the way. Although the creek wasn't technically out of it's banks, there was a lot of left over standing water around the low spots, some places nearly 10" deep, which made for wet shoes. Overall it was a nice trail with great views of the creek. Plus, it's short if you don't have much time....You can complete it in less than 20 mins.
