Explore the most popular camping trails in Challis National Forest with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

This trail is really out of the way to get too. 4x4 drive recommend. DEET a must, no plant or flower based bug sprays. They will attract bees and horse flies. Cougar and bears spotted near Lieutenant Lake and General. Good fishing.

Great hike to enjoy solitude. Trail can be easy to lose in the snow - be sure to bring your map. GPS was also extremely helpful!

Oh my. What a temperamental little spring. Short scramble from car to pool but quite a tough one!!! Steep loose sand hill. Be careful both up and down!!! Once you get there, fortunately you'll most likely be there alone. For good reason though.....unfortunately. Once youre in you're most likely out! Lol. Hot hot then cold cold currents beam you unexpectedly!!! I could not find one comfy spot. Right off highway but off some forgotten old road no one drives. Great view. No bugs. No peps... But no soaking either....at least for us. Quite the adventure though. Makes for a good story and memories to laugh on. Good luck!
