Great sand - beautiful water - few people

Seems it's more a surfing place than typical beach fun, lots of rocks.

The views are great though.

So the drive is nice, but it's the other folks on the road that are troubling. If only folks would be considerate in the signed yield areas and pay attention to the places where it says; DONT PARK, DONT STOP, DONT SIT ON THE WALL!

Not much of a hike, more of a place to hang out on the beach. Watch the surfers and kiteboarders, hang out with the sea turtles.

Nice park and beach for surfers. If you’re not a surfer, this is a nice stopover towards Hana where you can enjoy the views. There are rock outcropping a but be careful around the ride pools.

I have enjoyed watching the amazing windsurfers from the safety of the beautiful shore.

Been here several times, it's a great start to the Hana Hwy drive. Ho'okipa Beach Park is the place to watch wind surfers get air and tackle some rough surf when the wind is up. Two sections - one at beach level and one up above give you some great views.

We drove the road to Hana and past Hana around the southern end on brand new pavement. Beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and historic sites. One of the most beautiful drives in America or in the World. Make sure you get out to explore or the curves will make you dizzy! Enjoy!

The Hana Highway! This should be on everyone's short list of scenic drives. 64 total miles (approximately 52 from Kahului to Hana) through mostly lush tropical rainforest hugging the steep slopes of Maui's northeast shore. It is slow and winding with amazing views as you pass the 600+ curves and 59 bridges (most just one lane wide). I have done it twice...both times a number of years ago. But it is something you don't forget. Don't miss Waianapanapa State Park, its trails and wonderful black sand beach. But the highlight for me was swimming in the clear blue freshwater cave pools (just be prepared for the very cold water that has flowed down from Haleakala). Hana also has a red sand beach and the beautiful Hamoa Beach, where we boogie boarded in large waves. Great memories!

Cool drive nice trails along the way, be warned though the drive is Sketchy but amazing and worth it. I would say it's a Maui must do.

Absolutely breathtaking drive with beautiful hikes, waterfalls, and beaches. A must if you are on Maui!

Many very interesting stops, such as black sand beaches. Winding road with lots and lots of turns. Feels very very long.

The garden of eve it was a nice a beautiful trail

Very easy walk down the rocks to the beach. Large sea turtles down on the one end, didn't realize they would be that large. Tons of surfers today which was cool to watch. Good breeze while down by the water.

The road to Hana is the best Maui has to offer...54 one lane bridges and 280 hairpin turns. There are mudslides and flash floods often, so be weary in the rain. Hana is absolute heaven: bamboo forests, black sand beach, red sand beach, lava tubes, and waterfalls. Fruit grows everywhere here.

Turtles come up on the beach here. The windsurfers are cool to watch.

Worth the sketchy drive for sure. Make sure to stop in the Bamboo forest and do the hike that takes you to four different waterfalls, it will blow your mind.

Beautiful views. You can see sea turtles sunbathing on the shore, but keep away and respect the animals. Good viewing of surfers, kite boarding, and windsurfers.

This is one of those must do items if you're in Maui and have the time. It's an all day adventure but well worth it. I'm surprised again that no one has reviewed this incredible drive. We rented a car and drove this in 92. They of course tell you when you rent a car that you are not to go to Hana, but everyone does anyway, so don't let that stop you. The drive there will take you almost 3 hours as it is a winding road like no other. Take your time and enjoy the views. The tropical forests to the right of you are thick and almost impossible to navigate thru on foot. The ocean will be on your left the whole way there. You will cross 59 bridges and go around 620 curves!!. Hana is a neat little town far removed from the rest of Maui. The road does go all the way around if you wanted to do a loop, but the day we did it, it was washed out beyond Hana due to recent rains. We went as far as Wailua Falls and turned around there. What an incredible drive this is though. Check it out!

Not a hike at all! Just a stop on the road to overlook Ho'okipa and a beautiful lookout point. The view is definitely worth the stop. You can even watch the surfers, it seems to be a pretty popular local spot.
