Great place to camp! Easy access to the trails to both waterfalls and it's not a strenuous hike at all.

This trail IS hard but actually not too bad! I’m a very occasional hiker and this was perfect. I was in search of a medium challenge and great views, and this loop delivered! I followed the advice of previous reviews to go counter clockwise (left onto Freeman instead of right onto the AT at the top of Byron Reece). This made a HUGE difference. Freeman is rocky and narrow, but it’s a very gradual incline, whereas the AT side is very steep. It was hard enough coming down that way, I wouldn’t want to go up it! Took me four hours with a leisurely lunch break at the summit. Get there early for parking! One privy at the summit, but no facilities at the bottom. Amazing views the whole time!

Good trail! You can go the full 6 mile loop or just do the 2 & 2 to the views.

Campground but hopefully they have rental cabins this is a perfect place around tons of trails and perfect to bring your dogs!

Cute small trail down to a gorgeous waterfall!

Fantastic trail for avid hikers, some elevation and great views!!

The only reason this isn’t a 5-star for me is because the amount of road noise you can hear from the trail disrupts the serenity of the forest and the babbling creek. Fantastic trail - easy to navigate. Some elevation could push those who aren’t in the best of shape but they aren’t too difficult. Plenty of benches to rest along the way. Beautiful hike.

Not worth the one-lane windy 2.3 mile drive to the trail. And the fall is “meh” ..... places where the trail is really muddy and slippery.

The lake is gorgeous and the trees this time of year are spectacular. The trail is wide and well worn. There is a tree down at one point you have to suck under. The trail is close to the outer road with car noise in many places and for about 1/4 of the loop you are actually in the park parking lot and internal road. The out and back to the waterfall is down hill (tree root and and makeshift stairs in places) and down stairs to viewing platform and then back up to the lake trail.

Byron Reese and AT parts were great! Freeman's trail was super rocky and narrow. also, the 6.1 in description doesn't include Byron Reese decent, was 7.0 miles over all.

Haven’t hiked in nearly 13 years and it was just as cool as it was before. Was really muddy after a recent rain. Would definitely recommend taking freeman loop you even though it a mile or so longer it’s much more gradual

Came in off hwy 348 and Hatchet. Thankfully we were in the Yukon and not my little car; have to cross two creeks. Had so much fun! If you don’t have high clearance, stick with the hwy 129 entrance. Water flow was amazing! Wowed my 12 year old, and that’s a hard thing to do!

its nice to kill some time if need. i hardly give any waterfall less than 4 stars even if it dried up. but they put the viewing platform in the wrong spot. yes you are close to the man made falls but bad for pictures. the walk around the lake is nice and pick up an ice cream a the gift shop. then made my way to Brasstown Bald Recreation Area & Visitor Center which was outstanding and don't miss out on Helton Creek Falls which is only 3 miles away.

Always a beautiful hike especially on a fall day. Lots of bikers enjoying it today, as usual.

Tree down just before lower falls. Had to crawl under to get to falls.

Awesome trail! We followed advice of a previous review and went counter clockwise. The Appalachian portion is very well maintained. The Freeman loop felt very different, not as well traveled but we like the diversity. Views at top on a clear day are so beautiful, and the shelter is really neat. Would definitely do this trail again!

Lovely little hike that makes a great swimming hole in the summer. Can be hard to get to and is off the beaten path.
