Explore the most popular trail running trails in Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

The Kennesaw Mountain peak trail is a short two mile hike located in northwest Atlanta near Marietta, Georgia. The trail is located in the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park and is home to a rich history of the Civil War.

While the trail is not particularly difficult, it features only a short section of flat. The incline takes you up around 500 feet or so, from 1,200 at the base of the mountain to around 1,700 at the peak.

Because of its historical significance and its proximity to Atlanta, the trail is heavily used, though the trail conditions are generally very good. Those who maintain the trail have done amazing work to keep it clean and free from natural debris.

Outside of Stone Mountain, there's no better natural spot to get a look at the city of Atlanta off in the horizon. I highly recommend this park to anyone looking for a quick jaunt in the forest.

Little confusing with so many trail connections but overall good trail. Nice views with good trails!

Awesome trail. Lots of up hill and rocky. Scenery is great!

Great hike! Be warned, though: We started at the parking lot on Burnt Hickory and hiked up the hill clockwise. The first two miles are all straight up hill, and very rocky. Quite the workout! We saw many deer, loads of chipmunks and very low flying hawks on he hunt. Gorgeous views. Highly recommend.

Parking fills up fast.
Beautiful trail

Great hike with views. However, my GPS showed the hike closer to 6.5 miles and not 5.6.

This is my favorite loop I've found so far! Not insanely difficult but you'll feel like you did some good work after it. Love it!

But...you need to turn around at point where you head down to loop back around. At the bottom of steep rocky hillside is a down tree blocking path. Plus the wood post that should have sign is missing its sign (first clue that this path is non functioning). But the trail of rocks is beautiful, magical, and makes you feel childlike.

Great hard trail. Wouldn’t suggest dogs unless they are good at rock scaling or just want to stay on lower trails

Fantastic run and elevation training! I wish I had started earlier because it was quite hot by the time I ended but the crowd wasn't hard to navigate. Can't wait to go back. Xx

Beautiful views! Nice challenging trail. First two miles is all incline. I started from Pigeon Hill Trail off of Burnt Hickory Road.

Relatively short and easy to moderate hike that offers good views of Atlanta at the top. The trail itself is well marked and clean. It is steep at times and has a few switchbacks, but nothing too crazy. The observation deck at the top is nice, but there are so many trees that views of Buckhead and Atlanta are somewhat obstructed.

Parking can be a challenge on weekends--either circle through the lot and wait for someone to leave or park about half a mile away at the overflow lot.

Love it.

Great trails for running and hiking.

Fantastic trail for in town. Best time to hike is during the week to avoid the throngs of people on the weekend. Challenging sections exist.

Humbling. Beautiful. Peaceful.

Take a lite lunch up top, and enjoy the view.

I modified this one a little, came down Pigeon hill and Brumby camp instead of the mountain road. Kennesaw Mountain Trail section is nice! Walking/running paths are boring but not a bad workout!

enjoy this loop. Will incorporate some cut-off trails to legnthen.

nice and cool this morning , perfect trekking weather.

Difficult but not long. Rocky and some steps. You can take the park road back down or the trail.

Great loop for hiking and running!
