Length: 6.5 mi • Est. 2 h 36 m
This is a 1+ mile trail from Lake Winfield Scott to intersection with the AT at Jarrard Gap. Easy-to-moderate AT approach trail. Does not get particularly steep near AT like most approach trails. Makes for a lovely loop trip going up the Jarrard Gap Trail, up to Bird Gap on the AT, then back down the Slaughter Creek Trail to its shared trailhead with the Jarrard Gap Trail, about 5-6 moderate miles.Show more

An easy walking loop around the lake. Lake Winfield Scott is a beautifully secluded lake away from the more heavily travelled roads. At an elevation of 2,800' it is usually comfortable even in mid-summer and there is a small beach and swimming area as well as picnic area. The trail encircles the lake and offers views of Blood and Slaughter mountains from the south side.Show more
