Good mix of boardwalks and sand trails. Lot of doubleback trails that lead to "lookout" points. Low bug factor, not crowded. Good for early morning hikes in warmer weather.

Holy hot! Wear sunscreen and a hat, bring bug spray and lots of water, and you'll have a great hike! Can get muddy in some areas. Look out tower is on the first boardwalk if you park at the history building. The area deemed "look out point" on the map is a pretty walk but not much of a look out.

peaceful place.. fishing, kayaking

Light hike, but very scenic. We’ll kayak it next time.

Nice boardwalk. Short but well maintained trails. Also an observation tower is located on South side of the park. Can rent kayaks across the street from the main parking.

The kayak trail through the mangroves that really makes this place unique. Depending your pace and tides, and if you want to spend time in the deeper bay waters, one of the many fishing holes, or stop at the sandbar for a swim, the trail ranges between 2/6 hours to paddle.

It's excellent for critter spotting. A wide variety of birds, dolphins, rays, fish, and crabs inhabit the groves and on land you'll be sure to see a raccoon sneaking about, maybe even an armadillo.

It's a St Pete gem that offers enough of a scenic relief, you can forget the city is just over your shoulder.

Easy unpaved loop. Many wet spots in rainy season. Actively used.

Peaceful and serene

Saturday, June 03, 2017

It was beautiful and had lots of wildlife... including the worst mosquito swarm I'd ever experienced. Didn't make it as far as we'd planned as a result. Hopefully not the norm, because it was great otherwise.

Enjoyed the hike!

Did this as part of the greater part around it. Like the florid scenery but not much wildlife. There were plenty of bird watchers but not many birds

It was very beautiful. Not a lot of wild life in March but still beautiful.

Best trail in Florida

Wednesday, September 07, 2016

Best park and trail in Florida, I run here almost every day

Beautiful Scenery and birdwatching, you can see everything from ibises to roseate spoonbills in their natural habitat. There is a museum with an ancient canoe dug out of the mud and reassembled for display. The boardwalk is shaded, peaceful and very lightly trafficked.

This is a great place for a short visit or half day outing, especially by canoe or kayak. The boardwalk is very nice. The visitor center is a nice intro. of the local history and bring your birding binoculars.

This is a perfect area for trail biking BUT biking is banned everywhere on trails. Seriously?

Looks awesome for kayaking and hiking.

This trail was a buggy, muddy mess. After quickly walking it just to say I've been there, I headed over to Gandy Beach which I found more enjoyable. Pets are not permitted in the preserve which might explain why no one was there. Lake Seminole is better in every aspect in my opinion.

When you get through the entrance, go past the Duke Energy sign and park to the left in the designated parking area before the Visitor's Center. Boy Scout loop is a 1 mile loop that ends about 50 feet away from the car. When inside, follow the signs that say "Boy Scout Loop" and "Main Road" and you will do the complete loop. Lookout Point is a down and back which adds about 0.6 miles. If you go out towards Lookout Point and take a right towards the boardwalk, you will be on dirt until you reach the boardwalk, which is a soft composite material that does two loops. Asphalt connects both loops, and will take you back to the Visitor's Center. The entire trail plus all boardwalks and extensions is about 5 miles and brings you back to your car. The terrain is dirt, shady, near the water with limited sunny spots. Keep an eye out for armadillos, gopher tortoises, and snakes.
