About a quarter mile past the ranger station, a high bluff overlooks the spot where the Withlacoochee River joins the Suwannee River on its way to the Gulf of Mexico. Vestiges of history in the park show how important the Suwannee River was to Florida history. Along the river are long mounds of earthworks built during the Civil War to guard against incursions by Union Navy gunboats. Other remnants from the past include one of the states oldest cemeteries, and a paddle-wheel shaft from a 19th century steamboat. Five trails, ranging from a quarter mile to 18 miles, loop through surrounding woodlands and provide panoramic views of the rivers. Other activities include fishing, picnicking, and canoeing; for overnight stays, the park has a full-facility campground and cabins. Located 13 miles west of Live Oak, off U.S. 90.

Gorgeous trail along the River with natural flowing springs, sinkholes, wildlife

Gorgeous view of the river! The trail goes alongside the river. It leads to a beautiful overlook of the river and a spring that feed into it.

Beautiful! Stop at the spring, definitely a small hidden beauty. ❤️ lots of shade. I went late morning, early afternoon in the beginning of August and I was fine throughout the entire walk. Trails well kept up. Will definitely be going back if I’m in the area again!

A haven for banana spiders

Trail passes a main road and private residences with little dogs off leash. Runs into the FL trail on the north side of the bridge which continues both ways. Well marked, good condition.

Confederate soldier earthworks with great overlook of the two Rivers: Withlacoochee and Suwannee.

This is the Balanced Rock Trail which starts with the Suwannee River Trail. This is a beautiful and peaceful trail with half along the river and half through the woods.

Do not use the trail showed here. It will take you through private land that is set up as a hunter camp. I recommend looking here https://floridahikes.com/big-oak-trail to find out how to hike this trail.

Great winter hike. River is way up. Recently flooded over the top of Limestone trail. Nice to see it this way.

flooded cant really walk

This was a great trail! Just an FYI you will pass over a train track, pass by two houses, one house will have 2 little dogs greet you, then pass a weigh station before getting to the bridge. It is really cool and well marked. Just follow the blue markings on the trees.

Although the main hike paths were flooded today as of 12/24/18, my life partner and I decided to make something of our time there and venture around. Worth the drive if you're able to go a little out of your comfort zone to see interesting views and abandoned goodies off trail. We also came across friendly bats along our unique adventure. If you're an experienced hiker, it's pocket change but if you're a home body looking for adventure, go! Right now!

Fun and quirky short trail. Connects to Florida Scenic Trail as well!

Trails not well kept in the least

Tuesday, September 18, 2018

This was a great trail that was not on the map for the State Park but was well marked. It starts at the State Park then leaves the park, goes down a dirt road out to the highway. There you travel beside the highway to the old abandoned road and bridge that crosses the Suwanee river which gives some great views of the river. On the other side you take the marked trail down to the spring. There was only one other couple that we seen while we were on the trail. Everyone else turned around but it was well worth the trip to the spring

Great trail for beginners

Great run along the river. A few down trees on the trail, made for some good hurdles.

The whole trail isn't marked well. If you're plucky enough, you can find the old graveyard, bridge and antique chimney from a long-gone home. It's worth doing once, but be vigilant to stay on the trail.

Very well maintained. Trail is well marked.

Recommend this trail especially if you're a turtle lover. They love sun bathing on logs and rocks.

This is one of the coolest places I’ve hiked in the area. Definitely recommend to all

This track is a combination of the Suwannee River Trail, Balanced Rock Trail, and Lime Sink Run Trail. The river trail is great since you have a view of the river the whole time but for me the best part was the sink trail. The water level is low right now so you can walk out onto the limestone bed that floods during spring and summer. Awesome trails for Florida.

Beautiful! Nice short trail along the Suwannee River with some great views and neat bridges.

The turn around was near the road but half of the trail is closed. But if you go to the Suwannee park they have a couple smaller trails too.

We went canoeing here in the Suwanee River. It was so calm, easy and relaxing. Highly recommended for tourists visiting Florida. I was told there are gators in the river, but I didn't see any at all during my 2-3 hour canoe trip. We went to the canoeing outpost at a place called "Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park & Campground", they have low affordable rates for canoeing by hour, they were very knowledgeable, and one of their guys drove us to the Suwanee River a few miles away where we began our canoeing trip down the river.

Nice trail along the river. Seen some deer along the way. The road to the trailhead was rough and wet but the trail was nice

Very good for beginners. Has a few short trails.

Troop 599 spent spring break traveling close to 95 miles along the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail from White Springs to Branford Florida. We stayed along the river in the campsites at river camps and state parks. We had plenty of water and made the trip in 6 days. River camps have nice shelters and amenities to make trip pleasing. Great trip. Live Oak area flooded that spring.
