The first part going past the lookout tower was hot in September, no bugs. The very high grasses by the lake were recently cut but didn’t see any snakes. Ranger Rick was mowing some trails that day. It was easy, somewhat overgrown but a nice walk in the woods. I couldn’t hear any machines (until Ranger Rick off in the distance but that was it). I took a wrong turn an wound up by the ranger residences where I met a nice horse. He was old and boney and grazing alone. I whistled a couple times then when he looked over at me I waved and said “Hi!” and he immediately came over to me. We chatted for a bit. The account I recorded the trail on had some problem with “verified” vs “recording” so I logged out and I couldn’t get back in. Then I made this account. I don’t see that recording but it was about 8 miles in under 3 hours IIRC

Really a beautiful trail with varied environments and wildlife. The trail is blazed well, so it’s hard to get lost. Saw a large flock (?) of turkey, many deer, raccoon, and lots of birds. Best part is the EPIC moss-covered oak tree you have to walk through during the hike. Most beautiful oak tree I’ve ever seen, and there have been lots. A great Florida day hike.

This is a great cool season trail since it has a lot of sun exposure. It’s amazing to see how much the lake edge changes year to year, and that’s a great place to see eagles and sometimes snail kites.

The northern section is exposed, so best saved for cooler months. The southern section before the trail crosses the road goes through pine flat woods, which can be wet in the rainy season but is always pleasant.

I love this trail- great migrant birding and welcome shade in the hot months

Flat terrain. Most of it is in a beautiful forest with sprawling fern covered oak trees.

Hiked with my wife and 3 kids under 12. This trail is mostly in the sun with a prairie on one side and a forest on the other. It was hot! May 16. We made it to the lake and were attacked by mosquitos!! We turned back and didn't take the trek along the lake. We did see two deer, a bald eagle and some normal wildlife.

Trails not well paved, don't seem to be maintained, broken and burnt branches on the trail and some parts with a lot of sand, wasn't a enjoyable ride.

The North and Buster Trail is actually 2 trails. The Buster Island Loop Trail is 6.7 miles long. The North Loop Trail is 6 miles. I only completed the Buster Island Loop for this trip. I plan to go back and cover the North Loop. I had a little difficulty finding the beginning of the trail. There is a kiosk with trail map and you can also get one as you enter the park from the ranger station. There was a fee of $4 to get in. I think I got a dollar off because I was on a motorcycle though. To find the beginning of the Buster Island trail walk to the canal (from the trailhead parking) and look to the right. You will see 2 bridges. The second bridge will take you to the horse trailer parking. That is where the trail begins. There are some other trails in the park also. The Gobbler Ridge Trail and the Cow Camp Trail. The Cow Camp Trail is worth checking out. There is a Cow Camp on the Trail that is supposed to be back in time. These trails are in the Kissimmee State Park.
