The Wild Orange trailhead was hard to find at first, but it starts behind the visitor’s center/concession stand across from the music stage. The trail was really flooded about .25 mile in, so I got in my car and tried a different trail in this park. Fun fact, a bunch of these trails intertwine with each other and if one part is too flooded, just try a different part. It was really beautiful. No wildlife. The facilities are well kept and this park is not very crowded. If it’s wet, wear boots because the trail mud is slippery.

Great short, mostly shaded hike. Saw lots of what you would expect to see here- ferns, wild coffee, and malberry. Mosquitos actually weren’t bad, which was surprising for August.

Highlands Hammock is one of our favorite Florida State Parks and we love the variety of trails for all ages and abilities. We particularly enjoy this one for the boardwalk and the variety of plant life. This is where North Florida and South Florida meet!

I would recommend this trail to an above average hiker - shady with lots of vistas and board walks. Nice wide, well marked trails and boardwalks with plenty of signs as well as new unmarked trails! Observed 3 different sizes of alligators, what I believed to be a Cottonmouth snake sunning himself, many hawks, but no Scrub Jays! Hiked about 5.5 miles in very unseasonably warm weather - nearly 85*!

This is always a favorite of ours when we visit the Hammock. We've gotten to see some gators and a few baby gators during summer and fall seasons. The boardwalk is easy to walk on and I would recommend it for all ages!

Nice trail! Lots of wildlife. I found an armadillo foraging and lots of birds were around. It took less than 20 min.

This was a nice trail. I wouldn’t call it easy- only because when I think of an easy trail I think of my grandparents doing it and this would not have been for them. Lots of noisy squirrels and salamanders but also a few birds. It was just over 3 miles for me.

Very nice and easy trail. Took our dog on the entire trail (even on the bridges) without problem. Lots of roots along the way but beautiful and diverse scenery.

Nice trail to link together with others within the park if one would like to create a longer hike. Varied habitat consisting of palmettos, oaks, pines, and a swampy area. Photographed a water moccasin sunning on a felled tree near the swamp today. Interpretive markers appear along the trail (make sure to get a park map at the ranger station as the markers are numbered to correspond with the map). Still visible are cuts (sometimes called “cat faces”) made in some of the larger pines. These cuts were made to collect resin, which was used to make turpentine. Very shady trail with many pine roots. Not too buggy today, but this trail seems to have one of the heavier concentrations of deer flies when temps are warmer.

Really cool, unique spot. Fun for families. Keep in mind that at one section the boardwalk gets narrow with railing on only one side, so make sure your kids can handle that.

Our family really enjoys this trail. It really showcases Florida's swamp and bush very well. It's very relaxing and tranquil and we often see fish, song birds and alligators. Highly recommend.

Mountain biking

Nice trails for hiking, however, be aware that bikes can’t be taken into the trails, make sure you leave them on the bike racks. Trails are not suitable for mountain biking, enjoy the view on a nice walk.
