Hiking

Nice trail, well marked, fairly shaded, very flat. When I did this hike, we hadn't had any rain for about a week, but there was still spots on the (road) trail so filled with water, the trail was impassable. I had to forage around. I didn't see anybody else on my hike. basically following an old logging road. I did stop and take a nice nap in the shade, forgot to reset my recorder, so the mileage is off. My one large complaint about this height. If I added up all the trash I've seen on all the hikes I've done in the last 5 years combined, it would still not equal the amount of trash that I saw hiking this trail. literally trash everywhere. it seems it is an ATV trail also, not sure who the trash culprits are. But if someone is looking to do a good deed for the day, please bring a few trash bags, and pick up trash as your hike. I will certainly do that, should I do this trail again.

I like the boardwalk to the pond. It was a pretty sight. I didn't like the first mile because there were so many spiders and bugs I needed to fend off. It was also a bit challenging to avoid being ankle deep in mud or water in some parts of the trail. Towards the end the trail was nice and enjoyable. Overall, it was okay. I might go again in the winter time when there's not much rain and few bugs.

HikingWashed out

I hiked this trail mid-September, still in the Florida afternoon raining season. Though no rain for the last couple days, this trail became unwalkable at two different points. Both times I had to turn around. In fact, I wound up doing an out and back, instead of a loop. I was wearing waterproof hiking boots, thankfully. Had they been knee high, I might have ventured on, but the water on the trail was so heavy, and 2’ deep at a couple places, I just didn’t feel like getting my socks wet. Not to mention the brutal Florida heat.. Still, a nice trail. Will plan on doing it again after a couple weeks without any rain. The scenery was beautiful. No other hikers. A well shaded trail. Nice parking area…

HikingBugsFeeGreat!

Trail is currently in great condition with only a few minor muddy spots that can be easily avoided. It also looks as though the majority of the trail has been mowed recently. The boardwalk/ viewing platform at the pond is great and also appears to be fairly new. Whatever issues were highlighted by previous reviewers seem to have been fully remedied, as this trail is in good shape.

We hiked the long, green loop, 02/05/2020. 3 BIG puddles within the last mile of the hike. One was calf deep. One tree down blocking the trail but equestrians blazed a decent trail around it. Only wildlife was two deer, an armadillo and some birds. A little over 3 hours to walk it. Nowhere along the trail to sit and rest - except on the ground.

Today we walked the Green loop, avoiding the areas of the Blue loop, which we have previously walked, and are still ponded in places. Presently, the Green loop is dry and very pleasant. Highly recommended.

The directions function of this app took us directly to the trailhead. As the only vehicle in the parking lot, we looked forward to another quiet hike. From the kiosk, the trail is easy to follow. The purple, blue, and yellow trails enter the woods together and split along the way. Two miles down the purple trail, we arrived at a junction that required a decision: left for a short purple trail, right for a longer version. We went to the right. The first mile of the extended loop follows the highway. The second mile meanders through a recent selective cut. Most of this section is unshaded and may not be the best route on a blistering hot day. But on this January day we enjoyed the extra miles, especially walking through the open pine forest. The extended purple loop eventually rejoins the shorter loop and continues to the parking lot together. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. There are a few wet areas along dips in the trail which held standing water more than a week since the last rain. Expect to get wet here except in drought conditions. We completed the loop without seeing anyone. No small game was seen. This is a nice trail, easy to follow, and very peaceful. Expect to get your feet wet in a few places and you'll be mentally prepared to have a great time. Total distance: 9.6 miles

Fun trail, questioned life choices at a few points... End of December 2019 the trail was washed out in several places. 1st point was about a little over a quarter of the way in going clockwise. Lost the trail to a mud pit and couldn't see it on the other side, so we went left towards the road and eventually kinda found the trial. Was hard to tell we were going the right way until we found a picnic table... 3/4 of the way through it joined to one of the horse trails and that section was extremely muddy. We were able to off trail around some of it, but inside of my boots were squishy by the end. Lots of palms and pines.
