on Marsh Trail

A nice well-marked Trail with more paths than indicated here. If you take the Alternate Marsh Trail, it's not as well marked, was quite wet and had a lot of tall grass on the path. That part of the trail is not as well worn or groomed as all other areas were. I saw a couple snakes on that part of the trail and they were difficult to see due to the grass. Overall a great place to go for a hike.

There is hunting allowed in this area, so you need to check the various dates that people could be there hunting before you go ahead and hike. There is a sign that recommends if you are not comfortable with walking the trail that you take a different Trail approximately two mile down the road.

The trails are maintained really well, the only reason for the lower rating is the lack of wildlife. But there were two elementary groups there so that may have affected the wildlife, it is great to see kids in n nature learning about the ecosystem.

Fabulous walk!!

Is everyone here against dogs??

Beautiful, easy gentle walk on very hot days. Lots of shade

One amazing hike! Gift shop with hiking stick medallions for sale. Boardwalk. Free strollers can be borrowed for the duration of the hike. $14 to enter. Benches throughout to rest. No bathrooms on the hike. Pack lots of water if it is hot out.

Beautiful place ! Not as much wildlife this time as last due to high water levels. Cypress trees are amazing, 20 feet around, over 100 feet tall, 500 years old ! Enjoyable, easy walk in a beautiful setting.

Beautiful nature and lots of wildlife. We saw plenty of birds and gators and tracks of other animals in the mud. The water level was high and in some places you have to cross the trail in the water going above ankles. Very serene and plenty of flowers

Phone died from heat early on my 4 mile+ trek through the Marsh trails. The trails are flooded in some areas and you may have to wade through water up to knee height.

Nice boardwalk through the swamp. Tons of Naturalists along the way to point out plants and animals that you could miss along the way.

Could use a few more trail signs. Overall a great hike. I will be back!

It had a lot of plant life and a little wildlife like birds, snakes, raccoon, turtles and lizards. The wildlife was less prevalent if you walked through. You had to "mosey" around to see it. Boardwalk straight through so very easy.

Wonderful quiet today

Took my 2-year-old daughter to do some birdwatching, as she is obsessed with birds. We were greeted in the parking lot by a 6' rattlesnake (!!!!!) and came across a raccoon, several different kinds of butterflies, an 8' alligator, a field of yellow wildflowers, and other gorgeous flora along the way. It was a bit windy for birds, according to the helpful gal in the gift shop. All in all a wonderful trip, even though my toddler wanted me to carry her 10 short minutes into our walk. Luckily the "trail" (boardwalk) was so easy, I had no problem carrying her on my shoulders the entire 5 miles, with a few stops here and there to gawk at wildlife :)
*Mom-Disclaimer* Loud noises are not conducive to experiencing the tranquility of the area, nor will you see anything, as the wildlife will be scared away by such disturbances. My daughter is unusually well behaved for her age and she understood that she needed to whisper and keep her voice down while on our walk. If your child has trouble with this, I would probably search for another spot for them!

The Swamp is an easy and fun place for all ages. Lots of wildlife to enjoy, the guides are excellent and friendly. Most importantly, the Sanctuary is working diligently to save the Wood Storks. Also, you have to go there at night for the After Dark hikes. Bring a flashlight, of course.
