Take in the views of New Haven Harbor and Long Island Sound from the top of West Rock. Rising up to 627 feet above mean sea level, West Rock Ridge is one of the most prominent features of the New Haven region. West Rock affords the visitor a spectacular view; it is estimated that one can see approximately 200 square miles from various locations on the ridge with excellent views of New Haven Harbor and Long Island Sound.

Enjoyed this hike through woodlands. Markers were clear but not identified by which loop of the west rock (couldn’t identify 4 mile north loop from 10 mile full loop) . Beautiful wildflowers and lots of bees and dragonflies!

Great afternoon hike! Took us about 2.5 hours at a good clip with a few pauses to take in the view. Pretty wildflowers. Will be back to explore more!

Some great views along the ridge! Trail is well marked. Go early and avoid weekends to get away from the crowds.

Beautiful day to hike with my wife and dog. Well marked trails with good views.

Great quiet trails!

Fun, easy, quick (1.5hr) hike through the woods; the stream and bridge were a nice place to relax and absorb the nature; great hike for families or people visiting New Haven

Great hikes for kids. Lake, lean tos, streams, a damn, and small rock formations to keep them busy. We hiked white to red-white around the lake.

Beautiful setting but not very challenging

Great hike; I wasn’t expecting the bolder scramble but did quite well.

Just came back from hiking the regicide trail, my favorite in New Haven. Started at the Westville feeder trail. A great workout if done complete and back to where you started, about 14.2 miles according to my gps, 5hrs 45 min, with some short breaks thrown in. Saw a summer camp outing at Judges Cave. Looked like 10 to 12 year olds They hiked up there, impressed, the future hikers of tomorrow. Other than them, saw no one else the entire length

The Westville Feeder is just a quick out & back that you can easily fit into a morning or afternoon. As an add-on to this feeder trail, I recommend continuing onto the Regicides Trail which leads you up a short ways to Judges Cave where Edward Whalley and William Goffe hid out in the 1660s trying to evade retribution from Charles II whose father (King Charles I) they had sentenced to death in the 1640s.

My absolute favorite go-to hike. Great for all skill levels with beautiful views of the lake along the loop trail.

Did a portion of this (the red blaze mostly), to see the views from the ridge, which were quite long-range and saw a little bit of Lake Wintergreen. A very nice hike.

A nice, easy walk with different views of the lake. The lake itself is good for fishing (State DEEP stocks it every Spring) and canoeing/kayaking. No motorized boats allowed. Good for dog walking, although they must be on a leash at all times.

It's a great trail with good views. It's well marked. Give yourself a good challenge by doing the whole thing, out and back.

I hike this area all the time, I love it. You can give yourself a good challenge by going up and over back over again and back over again and back over again heck why not do it another time. It's good for every season.

Excellent for an easy hike. Beautiful layout, great sights, close to home and close to school for me. A little rocky in some places, but I don't mind it. Always going to go back no matter what.

Cool hike to Scenic Vista by the Upper Pavilion for the Sky's the Limit Challenge. Hiked up a road and along a cool ridge trail. Views were very cool. Even hit up a few geocaches along the way. Went late fall and had the place to ourselves.

Easy trail like a walk through the woods. Delightful. Easy for little kids. Tall trees, meadows. Bizarre little old junkyard in one section. Very relaxing

Ran this trail and made it into a loop by connecting with the red trail in West Rock State Park. The views are pretty spectacular for southern CT. Unfortunately, like many other beautiful locations with easy car access, there is a a fair amount of grafitti and broken glass near the south end. The trails are very well marked. A bit rocky.

Took the blue trail. It has nice views and is very well marked. We only came across couple of folks. Not busy at all.

Had a great time here. Great views of New Haven and some pretty cool local history from the Revolutionary war time period. Excellent downhill mountain bike ride!
