on Metacomet Trail Loop

We enjoyed this hike, and I wanted to comment on the “easy” rating. There was a big climb at the start and plenty of places to scramble up and down the rocks. So, depending on the age and/or fitness level of the hikers, it may feel more like a “moderate” hike.

If it rained recently, stay away from the red trails around the lake. Deep mud.

It wasn’t too challenging. Worst thing was too much of mosquitoes. It’s rocky but not too challenging. Not too much loose rocky so not bad to walk.

Great place to hike. It’s a state park so it’s well maintained. I went the day after a few good rains so the trail around the lake was extremely muddy and I had to find a new trail to take. But the forest is absolutely beautiful and I’m glad I got to walk through it.

Bow hunting season is November! Trail isn’t ideal in winter time due to hunting

Went on the red trail around the pond with my 9 yr old . Was nice and easy and still long enough to feel like a good walk

Make sure and read reviews, a short (~1 mike) trip from trail end to car. Was a pretty hike, very easy going.

A lot of tree roots but we love it

Very rocky, a bit confusing, and the end of the trail comes out to an extremely busy and windy main road, in which you have to walk back about a mile to the main entrance. This was a one and done.

took the orange/blue --> orange loop. bit of a rocky incline to start. rocky parts at peak were fun! peak view was underwhelming.

The walk takes you back on Ledge Road, which is winding, narrow without a good shoulder, with a lot of cars. Not too pleasant.

dark and recently flooded so pretty wet on the lower trail .. nice if I was around to fish .. but for a walk average, nothing special

Nice little hike. Views are great and scenery is wonderful, fairly rocky. Hiked the south end of the Metacomet trail and some goes off park property. Loop around lake is really nice, lots of roots and not very rocky. I'm an experienced hiker and nothing was difficult about the trails. Saw a few mountain bikers and it was bow season as well. Trails are well marked until you find yourself off park property and then there are small orange tags on trees that alert you. Overall would recommend exploring these trails, you won't be disappointed.

Very nice hike, need to try it again so we don't get caught coming out of the woods in the dark

I loved every second of it! It wasn't "hard" but I only did the red trail.... I'm definitely going again. I can't wait

Overall, the hike was amazing. However, there were a few minor inconvieneces. Firstly the park was farther down the road than the GPS said it was, I just had to drive further down the road to the end. The map showed all the trails, but it was small and hard to see. Despite this, when I got on the trail the paths were easy to follow and see. There were rocks and a few cliffs, and at the top of the peak there was a stunning view of Cresent Lake.
