Well maked trail! not very challenging however all the fallen leaves made it relatively slippery. Cant wait to do this trail again to see how the vegetation changes.

Great hike

nice easy trail, limited views, often wooded. could be muddy after heavy rain. parking lot on downs road is large.

Great hike..! Beautiful views..

We got lost. Everything was fine to the top. It was finding the loop back to our car where we had trouble. We followed the purple trail (mistake) and it led us away from the loop. We never saw another color trail until the purple ended at a junction of red trail. 7.58 miles later and a couple dozen state troopers and DEEP officers and we made it back to our car before dark. #hikeofshame

Mid-Autumn hike today, pretty wet and rocky in the beginning. Pretty mild hike, take it easy on the few rock scrambles. Stopped at the view that looked West. Nice hike, will return again.

Nice little loop , well marked , Will do it again

Gunshots your thing? Was just here with my pregnant wife and entered at Ansonia Nature Center. Aftera few minutes an a extremely loud BANG went off as we walked along the trail. We were extremely caught off guard and were extremely scared. I like to be informed if there is going to be hunting rifles shooting and there was no signage regarding any hunting at that entrance. Be very careful and safe - I would not recommend bringing kids or pets here until proper signage has been placed with a warning.

Nice afternoon hike spot. Moderate hills, relatively easy trails with good markers. Beacon cap had nice view and place to relax before trekking back

while pretty, the rifle range that is in very close proximity prevents this from being a relaxing or nature enjoying walk. some of the trails were very windy and not well kept which is okay but you have to have your downloaded map with you to make sure you don't lose the trail. I would not recommend if you are
looking for a relaxing day in nature.

on Quinnipiac Trail Loop

quinnipiac loop is closed half way (@ downes road near ymca) at the moment. this loop map depicts the light blue, light blue & red & light blue trail loop. lovely 1-2 hr hike/walk/trail run

It’s more an easy trail. Very relaxing, and plain in most parts. No parking!

The "Perimeter Loop" is not really a single trail, and so therefore is not really well marked at some parts. I had my phone with the App, so I was able to stick fairly near the trail as its marked on AllTrails most of the time(with some off-trail hiking at points). I also came across two bobcats on the trail in the Ansonia Nature Center section at the far south of the loop, so I avoided that section and cut a new path to the rest of the loop. Doubling back and a few dead end trails later (to avoid the area with the bobcats) I was able to pick up the trail and continue on. There is also a local gun range nearby, making the sounds of gunfire an almost constant companion. Overall a good, pretty easy hike.

It was more difficult than Moderate but that probably because the loop, that we did, worked out to 5.6 miles. It was a pretty enough trail but there were three negatives. 1) the number of mosquitoes 2) the number of trees and branches down and blocking the path and 3) so much of the trail was rocks and boulders. I would consider doing again though.
One tip. It's a bumpy road but drive in and park at the parking lot at the start of the trail (instead of parking at 217 Cold Spring Rd). That cuts out 0.8 miles each way.

Nicely maintained and well blazed loop. The elevation gain is minimal so this hike is great for kids wanting something a little longer. Old settlement ruins are cool along with lean to's I'm guessing made by nature center trips.

Good beginner course for trail riding

Good little trail. Not too busy but well blazed.

Nice hike. No place to park and the entrance on the side of the road.

The trail is very undulating but for the most part very relaxing. Lots of foliage keeps you out of direct sun light.

Very nice hike. Like a walk in an enchanted Forest. Just be careful. I went counter clockwise. If you go this way you come to the back of a trail sign mid way through the loop. At that point the markers were highly visible so I went straight only to notice a mile later I was off the loop. I doubled back and realized I should have gone left at the trail sign where the marker was less visible.

Nice easy walk in the woods.

Great trail!

nice little trail to stay conditioned

Great snowy hike today. We parked in the commuter lot, crossed the street and walked up a side street to find the trail head. It was easy to find and everything was very clearly marked. We will definitely go again.

If you like waterfalls, you will love this hike! Albeit small falls. This hike makes you want to come back for more exploring. Following the colored trails is easier with a map. There's a gun club nearby, but you only hear it on parts of the hike.

We walked this trail today and had a lovely time but here is what we needed to know. The first parking lot is about a half mile away from the trail head. This first section of unpaved road runs RIGHT alongside (within a few feet) an ACTIVE train track which made me nervous and we did see a train. Much better to drive down the rocky rutted path to the round parking lot at the actual trail head. The first part of the loop trail runs along the river with STEEP drops; it is really lovely but challenging at places. Unfortunately someone was shooting a gun in the distance for much of the time we were walking so not truly peaceful. Look out for the pink hanging ribbons which mark a few spots that are a little tricky but overall very well marked.

To make this trail a loop, there was a junction with another trail that was not clearly marked. We ended up going back but loved the trail otherwise. Will defiantly return to figure it out ( but with more supplies!)
