The trail was well marked and definitely was a workout. Lots of ups and downs. There are a few nice overlooks and the streams and rivers are peaceful. Saw some interesting wildlife, but also encountered some bow hunters. Be careful and dress in bright clothing during hunting season. If this bothers you, no hunting is allowed on Sundays.

This trail entrance could have been much better marked but just after passing the shooting range there’s a small nook where a couple cars can park and just up the hill is where it starts (look for red markers). Other than that this trail had an incredible view after just a short walk!

My go to trail when I can’t decide where else to go

A few good ups and downs throughout this trail. It’s very well marked, seemed like newer trail title signs which is nice to see. I traveled clockwise, taking the blue/red trail first, then looping back with blue. The view at the top of Mount Sanford is a little overgrown this time of year, but you can still get a crisp view westward. I think my biggest hang up, and not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, is the parking lot. I’ve been here a few times to take advantage of the different trail options and nobody parks consistent with the other vehicles, which made me had to pull off an “Austin Powers 36 point turnaround” to get out of there. Not the first time that has happened.

Horribly marked and by that I mean so many markers going every which way then none at all. Abandoned logging equipment smashed to bits, we turned around it was one of the worst.

Great trail, went with my family (Wife ,12 years old kid and my dog) and did the trail without any inconvenience. Lots of fun areas and really great tree canopy, that translated into a very pleasant temperature drop.

Great hike. Great views from top. 700 ft elevation in the loop makes for a great workout.

Nice hike. The trail is well marked. However, the trail is swarming with bugs. Also, the trail is full of roots, rocks and boulders which makes it slow going at times. Additionally, there are many fallen trees on the trail and hanging over the trail. The first part of the trail is steep, but it levels off.

Typical CT trail with portions quite rocky with quite a bit of up and down. Small portions at beginning and end of out and back were a bit overgrown (perfect havens for ticks, so may want to wear hiking pants). Took the loop trail clockwise as suggested by others. This makes sense from the perspective of holding off and seeing the falls at the end of the loop, just before heading back to the trailhead. On the other hand, this means the steep downhill is a scramble down some rather loose rocky sections. It would be a bit safer to go up this section rather than down by going counter clockwise on the loop trail. Either way, I would classify the steep sections on the loop trail closer to hard than moderate. But then I'm 64 years old, and this was my first hike after 3 months off to heal a back injury. All and all an enjoyable hike. The falls were flowing nicely even in early August after little rain so far this summer.

Great trail! My 10 and 6 year old completed the loop with me today. They’re exhausted!

The parking lot is on the opposite side of the road from the entrance to the trail. You will follow the side of the ride for approx 0.1 miles to get to the entrance so be careful. The waterfall is beautiful! We went clockwise around the loop so the impressive view was at the end. Before starting the loop this way, there are a few large rocks to rest on and have a nice view of the smaller waterfall. Enjoy!

Coming down from the falls was slippery and scary somewhat but prolly cos we went late and it was getting dark . But now that is reflect it was really worth it

This hike that we did was a slight bushwhack in order to climb the cliffs that face route 8 and connect to the trails above. Do not follow my recorded map if you don’t want to climb dangerously exposed rock face.
