on Pomperaug Trail

Good little hike that'll give you a work out. A few slight inclines and several stream crossings. Well marked. Slightly buggy. If you live in the area and don't have the time to get to more challenging trails in NW CT/Hudson Valley, this is a great option for a ~ 2 hr hike.

Was looking for something challenging. If you’re looking for several inclines and elevated heart rate this is great. Nice views everywhere and great spots along ledges or brookside to take a break. Not for leisure “ hikers “
Bring your best hiking boots, you’ll be glad you did.

Haven't hiked in CT much, but this was my favorite I've done here.

Finally found a trail worth calling hard. Love that there's a park halfway to take a small break.

Loop part of the trail is challenging. I believe distance was around 5 miles. If you are in CT, you can find better hiking places.

The Pomperaug Trail is 3.8 miles on land owned by the Oxford Land Trust and the Town of Oxford. There is very limited parking on Fiddlehead Rd and you may need a parking pass to park at Jackson's Cove depending on season. The trail is self is challenging if you are not in condition, it has a bit of up and down and is narrow in spots. It was well marked with blue blazes and has a scenic overlook over Lake Zoar. It is a low use trail but appears to be in good condition. Trekking poles are highly recommended.
