I’m not writing a review I’m just saying why can’t I find the mine?!? Tried to go look for some garnet today was walking along the water not sure what I was looking for, took a slip and fall and sprained my ankle. That’s what I get for going off the beaten path right after all the snow melted.... guess I’ll be waiting til summer. Ouch

Great hike but definitely not 3.6. Blue blaze trail is 4.4 miles if do the red trail it will be 6.5 miles. I don’t know why people are saying you scramble rocks because there is no rock scrambling. Straight up hill for about .5 miles but not too difficult! Great ruins of the old mine. Stay to your left when you start the trail unless you want to do uphill on your way back.

Wow! The first half is more of a hike, with a good scrabble up a steep rocky incline, and the back half took us through a flat woodland road. The historic points of interest were great. Please don't drop anything down the mines, let the earth trolls sleep! :)

Went hiking here during Labor Day weekend after seeing the trail listed as one of Connecticut's best. The mix of terrain and the ruins in the first part of the loop made for an interesting trail but the second half was flat an dull. More of a nature walk than a hike. The signage wasn't very good either as everyone seemed to come to where the gorge bridge should have been and then looked very confused and walked away. Overall though, it was a great hike. Beware of parking though as there isn't much. You can park on the dirt road but it is narrow so be careful.

Nice mix of terrain with a few moderate climbs. Interesting historic site with remains of the mining facility from the 19th century. We look forward to seeing it again.

Really cool trail with lots of neat things to see. Just enough climbing mixed with flat walking trails. Looking forward to going back.

Roxbury Land Trust does a terrific job of maintaining all of their properties. This is among my favorite among their holdings.

Great hike! Goes from easy to moderate along the whole way, the loop was much more worth it than seeing the attractions before hand!

Tree frogs are out and singing their songs. Did 4.3 mile loop on blue marked Quarry trail. Some mud in two or three spots, otherwise dry. Took about 90 minutes roundtrip from parking lot. Shepaug River is high and glowing briskly right now.

Pretty easy minus a few steep/rocky sections. Trail is marked, but still gets a little confusing. Overall an interesting place to take a short day trip

Awesome spot. Easy to follow trails with some steep spots to keep it fun and challenging. Lots of fallen leaves made the trail a bit tough in spots as you can really start to slide, but hiking poles really help with this. Cool historical spots with lots of informational placards explaining the mining operation and donkey trail. Bat cages were really cool too. We will definitely return.

For the most part it was moderate, however, the mine loop was completely flat. Other than that there was a nice mix on incline and I was able to do it in sneakers. Hardly saw anyone on the trail.
