Took a little over two hours to hike up to the lakes. Lake is still mostly frozen over and lots of snow. There were plenty of dry spots to setup camp for the night though. Our camp got snowed on for about two hours during the day but then the sun came out strong. Great in and out trail for a one night backpack.

It’s a beautiful trail. We did not make it to the end because there was a lot of snow. Thigh high in places. The runoff was strong and the creek was flowing full force. Made for interesting and wet crossings. We will be back in September.

Easy to access off I70.

Snowshoed. Very different experience in summer.

The trail up Shrine Pass Road was easy to follow. There were very few hikers. Once you pass the Shrine Mountain Inn huts there is not a defined trail. There are lots of snowmobile tracks, but no defined snowshoe route. You will want your gps to follow a route. We bushwhacked as best we could through the trees and up the final slope. The final slope is very steep. I loved it, but some in our group weren't ready for anything that strenuous.

The snow is starting to crack on some slopes and may give soon. Pick your route carefully.

The snow was passable, but the hot sun made it very soupy by the end of the day. It was miserable on the way down. You will need snow shoes. One of my compatriots took his off because the snow was sticking to his snowshoes pretty badly. He couldn't make it 100 yards without severe post holing.

I think this was my last snowshoe excursion for the year. The snow is not a lot of fun to be in these days.

Great views at the top.

This trail was a great trail and pretty easy! Only a small incline which was nice because you were not slipping on the snow. The snow was packed down and I did not sink at all. I highly recommend if you want an easier hike and do not want to snowshoe!

I really enjoyed this trail! Not difficult at all and neat to see the mine and view at the top. I could be a little biased because I got engaged here :)

Beautiful views the entire way up. Pretty snowy starting about 1.5 miles in - got by with YakTracks but could have used snowshoes in parts.

We went to hike this, but the road was still closed for the winter about 6 miles from the trailhead. We ended up taking a snowmobile tour out of Lazy T Ranch up to Maroon Bells Lake which was fabulous.

Slushy snow pack and mud made the hike slightly harder than it would on a dry spring/early summer day.

Great starter trail, especially if you aren't used to altitude. Dog and kid friendly. Deep snow, waterproof clothing recommended but not needed. Saw a lot of families with snowshoes, but doable without snowshoes or spikes!

Great snowshoe in January 2018!!

This was a great challenge with a huge payoff!

Beautiful views! Of course, it was the Super Blue Blood Moon, so I was destined to be gorgeous! Light/easy hike, and as of January 30th, the snow is packed on trail so bring microspikes..

Great winter hike with view of keystone resort that can be seen from the mine! We brought the dog and was an easy hike for all!

Only able to get within 1.2 miles of the trailhead due to snowmobile only activity on the road. Wasn’t planning on the extra distance, so we grabbed another trail off of Berthoud Pass.

Loved the trail, new snow falling made for a great quiet ascent. The mine on top was neat. Saw many cross country skiing and hiking in snow shoes.

Awesome trail! So pretty and quiet and the mine was a plus. Did it with just hiking boots and was fine. Saw a couple of cross country skiers. Would definitely do it again. Lots of snow :)

great views. wildflowers almost at peak

I absolutely LOVED this trail I got a little out of puff a few times , just getting used to the altitude . Quite a bit of snow but manageable with boots . Getting up to the top and seeing the mine and the view is awesome . The dogs loved getting to the top and playing in some deeper snow . We carried on up a bit further where it really does get deep but it was fun , very quiet and very beautiful . Hardly met anyone on the trail which is surprising given the beauty of the views . Great for photographers

Warning: as of 12/3/17 the road to get to the trial is closed.

Went here to hike but the road to get to the trail was closed. Will try again another time as it looks beautiful!

Absolutely gorgeous the whole way. Nearly everything was covered in snow and the lake was almost completely frozen. A majority of the trail was frozen too so be prepared.
Really not too challenging even with the ice. Nice and gentle inclines most of the way.

I'm sure it's gorgeous, however, the road was closed to get to it.

Absolutely beautiful. The last 1.5 mile drive up to the trailhead is packed dirt. The trail is wide and open with beautiful views. Cool mine at the top.

Lots of wet and thick mud in the first and last half mile. Most of the trail is covered in pack snow, but it was up to 2-3 inches in some places. The views on the way up were just as pretty as the ones at the top!

Great views all the way up, crowned by the stunning 360 view up top. Most of the mud was frozen. Only very light snow on 11/11/17

Hiked this 11/9/2017. Beautiful views every step of the way. Don't let the mud at the beginning discourage you. Most of the trail was snow covered but rarely over ankle deep. One of our favorites.

We hiked here with our dogs and it was awesome! The trail has a good combination of uphills, downhills, and flat sections and some great views. There was a really nice meadow area near the creek where we left the trail and played in the creek for a bit and the trail was easy to find again, even after following the creek for a while. There was a fork in the trail at one point and we took the right trail which took us to a GORGEOUS view of the creek below, and it was here that we turned around to make it home before dark. Next time we will take the left fork to see where it goes!

Fun trail! I am not a frequent hiker, but am averagely fit and from Kansas, so it was difficult, but not impossible! Definitely some steep sections that are treacherous when wet and muddy or covered in refrozen snow. A few trees fallen over the trail between miles three and four that are relatively easy to get around. Didn't make it to the lake since I only allotted time to go 4.5 miles up and 4.5 miles down... seems like on gps it is at least 1-2 miles farther on. Overall a beautiful hike with the aspens and pines and the creek babbling beside you.

Definitely not a "Hard Trail" we did it in reverse starting at Bakers Tank . Nice forest walk took about a little over two hours very enjoyable and a good 1st hike having just arrived acclimatising to the altitude Our GPS measured it as 5.8 mile round trip

Good walk/hike. Snowy conditions but didn't stop us in our Nike Running shoes. Beautiful day!

Pretty easy. Scenic view of the reservoir. No shelter and ideal for mountain biking.
